Most routers have about 200m range. However, the actual range in real-time environment is much less. Generally the antenas are omni-directional, however, directional antenna can be used to improve range in one direction. There are two ways to increase the range/ coverage area (i) Adding external antenna of appropriate type (ii) Installing additional Access Point (AP) connecting it with the existing AP wirelessly in line-of-sight (creating WDS) OR connecting the two APs with wire, which is a better option as it provides robust and reliable connectivity between APs.

Based on my on-site experience, I suggest that you may relocate the AP to another location depending upon your network environment. It has always helped me a great deal. Placing the AP at the desk level, avoiding obstacles such as concrete pillars, walls, steel cabinets etc in the signal path have remarkable effect on range and overall performance of the network.

HOPE IT HELPS...Let me know if you need any further clarification assistance specific to you AP make and model. Don't forget to rate the solution if I could have been of any help!
Goodluck!

Expand range extender

You can install a wireless range extender. Try a Netgear Dual Band WiFi Range Extender, this device extends the wireless range of your existing wireless router, it connects to your wireless router using a wireless connection without the need of a LAN cable.

I am trying to connect the wireless range extender wnr2000rpt. step 3 says have the computer outside the range of the regular router then after the extender is on connect to netgear_ext. ??? How in the...

The reason they tell you to get out of range of the _router_ at first is because the extender may assume the same name as the router so you may not be able to discern which is which. Also, a lot of laptops will automatically connect to the "old" signal, especially if the laptop hasn't connected to the extender for the first time yet. If you think about it, if you are out of range of the router and you plug in the extender, your computer will only see the extender, as long as you didn't get too far out of range of both.

Go to an area where your extender is between the router and your laptop or whatever computer. If you see 2 networks with the same name, connect to the strongest signal. If your router's name is "netgear" and the extender is "netgear_ext", connect to the netgear_ext.

Can I extend my internet range with a netgear & a Belkin router

DG834G is a modem/router, it is not a range extender that could extend the range of the wireless signal from the Belkin router.

Try to configure your new router and you have to reconfigure the Range extender to tally with the new router. The IP Address that the range extender should have should depend on the DHCP server of your router that provides the IP Address.

Use Belkin f5d7230-4 as a wireless access point

Hi Druid,

Based upon what I've read regarding and experience with the F5D7230-4 is it will only work with another F5D7230-4 or F5D7231-4, F5D7130, F5D7132 and this are all Belkin products as well I thiink it has something to do with the WDS compliance for this specific model that's why they have clearly specified on the User Guide which devices are guaranteed to work with an F5D7230-4 that is set to AP Mode(Bridge/Repeater).

If you really want to exend the wireless coverage of your Linksys router I suggest you try the Wireless G Range expander(WRE54G v2.0/3.0 version 1.0 I do not recommend since it's somewhat challenging to configure since it has no ethernet port all the setup will be done wirelessly)

click this link for the User Guide of your Belkin router.
