I just bought my new Cisco Linksys E1000 WirelessN Broadband router, set up the brand new cat 5 wires and hooked it to my modem. My old lap top is able to see the wireless network but my alienware lap top is having difficulty connected to it wirelessly and because of that the cd will no complete setup. Is there anything I can do?

If you're running windows 7 sometimes it tries to auto detect the type of network but doesn't ask for a password, when it starts to try to auto detect hit cancel and enter in the password manually.

For beginners-how do i connect the linksys e1000 to my hughes net modem? or do I hook the cable directly to my tower so i can use my laptop in another room

The modem will plug into the router, it should come with a cable for this, there will be 5 ports on the router, one will be labeled as internet most likely , this is the one you use, the other 4 will be numbered and you can use any of these to connect your tower. the wireless should work automaticly for your laptop, but if you want to make it a secure network, please contact me directly and ill walk you through it.
hope this was helpful

I just recently moved to a new location. We signed up for AT&T, and just recently purchased the Linksys E1000, and the modem model# is U10C018. My computer is connected through an ethernet cable. ...

Most likely this is not a problem with the router, but with the modem or the connection that at&t is providing to you.

I would suggest calling at&t and have them check your connection.

You should check the filters on each of your phones jacks to make sure that they are in place and properly connected. Additionally, you should check the wiring for any damage or poor connections in your phone lines.

I have internet service with Washington broadband in Yakima, WA. Trying to hook up Linksys E1000 router is proving to be difficult....all hooks up fine, but router not recognizing internet...

you may want to make sure that your IPS supports DHCP or you connect using a dynamic IP address. If not supporting DHCP, you want want to login into router to reconfigure it. Here is link for more info. http://www.linksysbycisco.com/EU/en/products/E1000 I have seen similar issues many time. Good luck and let me know.
