I have had that same issue -- I just get a pair of channel locks and clamp onto the chuck ( not hard ) and run the drill forward -- this should close the teeth.

My black and decker 12v drill is 'locked". The area where you put the drill bits in won't loosen or tighten so it won't hold any bits. I have tried to manually loosen or tighten it too but nothing...

Try shooting some WD-40 lubricant into the 'chuck' and let it sit for awhile, then rotate the outer part of the chuck CCW to loosen the 'jaws'. If the chuck is a keyless type, just hold the chuck and turn the reversing switch to 'reverse', then gently apply power to the trigger--that should open the chuck jaws. You will likely find that a leather glove on the hand holding the chuck will help prevent a burned hand if you lose your grip. If it is a keyed--type chuck (there will be ring of gear teeth on the front edge of the chuck), then a key with a small gear near one end is required to turn the chuck open (turn the key CCW). Hope this helps!

How do I exchange bits in the keyless * BLACK & DECKER 12-Volt 3/8" Cordless Drill

In Black and Decker drills when the drill stops turning the chuck spindle locks automatically. All you have to do is grip the outer sleeve of the chuck and turn it anti clockwise to open it. Turn it clockwise to close it. When you press the trigger to start drilling the spindle unlocks automatically again.

I have a Black & Decker 18V cordless drill with keyless chuck. The spot where the drill bit fits is in the open position stuck and won't turn in either position. What am I missing how to unlock it?

Look at the three jaws in the chuck,if on is further out than the others the you need to tap ti back into place with a small punch and a hammer. If this does not work then you need to replace the chuck, remove the screw at the bottom of the chuck[where you put the bit],then you will need to to clamp vise grip on the chuck and with it pointed away from you hit the vise grips with a hammer with a sharp blow downward and it should come off.Hope this helps.

Keyless chuck is stuck open

That can happen if the jaws inside the chuck, usually 3 triangular pieces get jammed together. With chuck facing down tap chuck several times to loosen jaws. If that doesn't work spray a small amount of WD-40 into chuck and try again

Black decker drill keyless chuck won.t open !

hold the back of the chuck with channel locks or a vice and use the same channel locks on the front and open the chuck manually it should work and you can get to the screw to replace it or the hand chuck. this can be a little frustrating but hang in there and you'll be a pro shortly.

I'd put penetrating oil in it and tap the chuck with a plastic hammer. That should free it up.
