Question about Computers & Internet

2 Answers

I just received the above laptop for Christmas and was attempting to make a set of recovery disks. The first disk recorded fine. I am using Memorex DVD DL disks. The second disk recorded almost halfway and then kicked out with the above error code. I have tried several different disks in the hopes that the one I chose was damaged, but to no avail. Getting a bit frustrated as I am still not able to actually use the computer and I have had it since Christmas. Your prompt attention to this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Apparently the error code didn't make it into your question. Can you provide it in a comment?

Cheap DVD DL media (such as memorex) is incompatible with some burners; having experienced this myself I'd advise you to buy a spindle of Verbatim discs. A firmware update on your drive might improve compatibility with cheaper media, but I wouldn't count on it.

I don't think memorex manufactures its own discs -- they just resell other brands. It's very possible that you've picked up a dud pack. There's a few apps that will tell you the real manufacturer of your discs, and from there you can search for other users' experiences.

My computer keeps saying disc read error i have tried everything but nothing works

When you receive a disk error, stop using the disk immediately, and do not attempt to open damaged files. The more you attempt to use a damaged disk or file, the less likely a successful recovery will be.
You can try to recover the damaged file(s) with utility programs (such as ScanDisk or Norton Utilities for Windows, or First Aid for Mac OS X), which search the disk and attempt to recover damaged areas. Recovering damaged files or disks can be risky, however, and it is possible to make the problem worse by using these utilities. Unless you thoroughly understand the recovery software process, UITS recommends that you seek professional assistance.
The likelihood of successful recovery depends on the type of damage to the disk. Information stored on disk is vulnerable to dust, dirt, magnetic fields, static electricity, age, wear, and physical disk damage. Taking proper care of disks and making frequent backups will help protect your data.

Trouble with DVD+RW Disks being compatiable or staying formatted

cos they are cheap - get some decent branded discs such as TDK or tayo yuden and it should be fine

Also check the manual and or requirements on there website and it should show which are the best discs to use for that player but TDK or tayo yuden should be fine.

www.svp.co.uk or any where you can buy discs from should be fine

Blue Screen and Computer freeze after using Memorex CD-R & DVD RW

Is it possible to try this drive in another PC? My recommendatoin, if the drive performs to specs in the other PC, would be to perform a System Restore (not the XP one, but rather the one that uses the HP disks). If you do decide to do the restore, be sure to backup anything that is irreplacable as the restore will put your system back to factory settings. Good luck!

Mini DVD Camcorder Problem

You will never be able to recover the information. Sony's system really will have problems with third party brands; there is particular engineering that makes this so. In my shop (Sony authorized), I have seen this problem many times. If you insist on using other brands, get used to problems. As your laser assembly wears it will become more problematic. Good luck, magic seadog
