Question about Whirlpool Duet GHW9150P Front Load Washer

1 Answer

Clothing jammed front of washer and pulled front apron/seal away which caused water to leak out front. Fixed the seal and turn the washer on. The water turns on to fill the basket but now the motor will not spin the drum. There is no sound coming from washer. I hit cancel and the washing machine drains and unlocks the front door. There is no error code.

I just ran the rinse cycle. It pumps out and I think I can hear the drum motor turning, so I'm thinking now it broke the drive coupling or the belt. Need to check the parts list to see how the motor turns the drum.

Have you tried unplugging unit for a couple of minutes to reset? if so it is possible the motor control got wet and this could be the culprit. there are also some wiring around the front of unit are we positive nothing got disconnected... let me know

I unplugged the unit for an hour and it does the same thing. When I was putting the apron seal back with the spring clip I did not see any wiring pulled loose, but I was not specifically looking for that. I was wondering if the MCU got wet as water was pooled everywhere in the front. I will wait and see tomorrow if it dries out and solves the problem. If not, I will pull the top and back off tomorrow to make sure the motor belt or coupling is not severed. I will also double check to see if any wiring harnesses got disconnected.

Cold water leaks into tub when machine is off

Try to identify roughly the area the leak is coming from. This will eleminate some of the following

Hose Connections
Check the rubber washers or replace if the hoses are leaking at the WATER INLET valve

Door Seal
This is a common place for leaks. Carefully check by partially pulling seal inside out and check for punctures, pens, pencils... Additionaly if the door is not closing properly it may need a door adjustment. This can easily be done by loosening the hinge bolts on the front panel, adjusting and retighten. The seal is also known to get lightly snagged by zippers or rub by heavy items when close are being removed. This tends to cause the seal to get damaged at the six o'clock position. This is sometimes hardly noticeable but if it is leaking from the bottom of the door replace door seal.

Water Inlet Valve
If the hose connections are good to the water inlet valve check that water is not leaking from the valve itself it is replace inlet water valve

Drain Pump
Check the drain pump housing and all hose connections. The drain pump is behind the lower panel, behind the back panel, and sometimes removal of the front panel. Hoses can be tightened. If hoses or pump housing is leaking replace pump .

Outer Drum
The outer drum is 2 halves bolted together some washers have a seal between others do not. If the washer is leaking between the seems disassembly of the washer will be necessary. The top panel, console, front panel, door seal, struts. 9696d86e-1b8b-4b2e-af2c-6f3a3ae921dc.jpg

Leaking water

When your Maytag top load washing machine leaks water, you will need to check the following parts until you find where the leak is coming from.

The water valve: The first place you need to check is behind the washer. Check the two fill hoses and the water mixing valve.
Check for pinholes or cracks on the plastic body of water mixing valve.

Remove the front panel : The next thing you need to do, is to remove the front panel so you could see the tub and the hoses.
Set the washer on the regular cycle and turn it on so it could start filling.
Use a drop light and check all the hoses under the washer as the washer is filling.
Make sure to keep your hands away from any moving parts.

The pump : If the hoses are ok, check the pump for leaks. When the bearings in the pump wear out, that is when the pump will get noisy and that could cause your Maytag washing machine to leak water.

The stem & seal : Another place that the washer could leak water from, is the stem & seal on the holding tank.
When washer leaks water from the stem & seal, the water will leak down the center of the transmission.
When the stem & seal need to be replace, the tub bearing has to be replace at the same time. This is an expensive repair if you have to pay someone to do it. If you do it yourself it will cost you about $110.

Washer is leaking in front

If the leak leaves a trail on the outer cabinet of the washer, your problem is the ring seal on the door.
If the leak is flowing from under the machine in the front, it will either be your silicon water apron or your water pump. It usually is not the pump, since the apron tends to age faster than all other parts. All 3 parts are replaceable but require some skill to do if you have no experience. The door seal is easier than the other 2 since it is right where you can get to it.
Replacement parts are available at searspartsdirect or 1stsource parts.

Water leaking bottom front door

Check out the front seal carefully for a replacement. Due to the flexibility of the seal, it is not to easy to spot a tear mark, Under pressure of an operation load, a small tear will allow water leaking through, so there is a leak. It is very common that a hard sharp object left inside clothing and during washing cycle, it makes its way to the seal and cause a damage. Hope this can help.

Washer leaks on on the floor when using a large load setting.

The leaks in a washing machine could be coming from many different places in the washer.

The first place you need to check is behind the washer, check the two fill hoses and the water mixing valve.

The next thing to do is to remove the front panel, set the washer on the regular cycle and turn it on to start filling.

Use a drop light and check all the hoses under the washer as the washer is filling. Make sure to keep your hands away from any moving parts.

If the hoses are ok, check the pump for leaks. When the bearings in the pump wear out, that is when the pump will get noisy and that could cause your Maytag top load washing machine water leaks.

Another place that the washer could leak water from, is the stem & seal on the holding tank. When washer leaks water from the stem & seal, the water leaks down the center of the transmission.
