Is you presser foot down all the way? Have you looked at your manual for dial settings? I was kind of confused when I saw how you had to set you stitch selector, double check that it is on the lines with the circle in the middle and not on something else. If, that don't work, take it back to the where you bought it.

Correct tension for fmq

Not sure what you're asking. FWIW, for FMQ, stitch length should really have no affect if you drop the feed dogs. The stitch length is determined by how fast you move the fabric and how fast the machine stitches.

For tension, it is dependent on your particular machine. To make that determination, make up sample sandwiches made of the same fabric and batting as your quilt and practice FMQ and adjusting the tension until the threads meet in the middle of the sandwich. For most of my FMQ, I use a specific bobbin case that has been adjusted and used only for FMQ.

try adjusting the size, see if it changes the result and go from there, you might also want to ask other experts, sewing machines are not my speciality.

The little Teeth/feeder under the foot doesn't push the fabric out. The fabric doesn't move

check where the direction button/lever is
it controls the feed mechanism and if it is in the middle the teeth will just go up and down
set it one way and it moves forward and set the other way will go in reverse
it is graduated to provide a stitch length ( number of stitches per 1")

Get a straight stitch

Your tension shouldn't need changed when you change the length of the stitch. Start at C-D for a start. Use rags to test. Your stitch length is chosen by the slide handle on the bottom. By moving to the left your length of stitch will increase and opposite will decrease the length. Anyway, your tension for the fabric may need to be set with a test piece. After that your chosen length shouldn't need any change of tension.

My stitch length is tiny and will not change

When selecting a stich, there's a button with a triangle with one edge pointing down. There you can select Needle Position and Stitch Length. --PDF manual, page 23

The thread tension has no influence on the stitch length. It just adjusts, where needle thread and bobbin thread 'meet' inside the fabric. A too high tension means, the bobbin thread is pulled trough the fabric and can be seen on the upper (needle) side. A too low tension means, the bobbin thread is not pulled through the fabric and you can see the needle thread on the bobbin side.

The fabric isn't feeding, and i've noticed that the dogs move up and down at an angle, but don't move back and forth

Make sure that your feed regulator is set properly. It can very well be a mechanical problem check to see what happens when you engage the reverse. Do the feed dogs move front to back and up and down at full stitch length? Or can it be that the regulator knob is slipping and not adjusting your feed mechanism? visit my site http://www.sewingmachineryrepair.com/forums/index.php

I am sewing on 100%polyester silk and using a 65 needle and the tension is on 4.2, stitch length 2. The fabric keeps wrinkling. I've tried rethreading, checking the bobbin and changing the tension. Nothing...

There is a pressure adjustment for the presser foot.

This is usually on top of the machine, over the presser foot.

If it resembles a screw head on this model - a dab of nail polish or mark of a sharpie will help when you reset after sewing sheer fabrics.

If you move the adjustment to the left it will reduce the pressure and should also reduce the wrinkling.

Adjust and then test on a sample of the same fabric you will be sewing.

Be sure to re-set after sewing thin fabrics.

Refer to the manual or download a free one at Brother's website.

Tension problem using zigzag stitch

Most likely the fabric is too light weight to sustain the thread tension using a wide zig-zag stitch. Tunneling will occur in this case.

Loosening the tension (top & bobbin) could also be beneficial.

Sometimes the machine has a special foot (sometimes called overlock) that will help. However, using something to add more body to the fabric, like a wash-away or tear-away fabric stabilizer to the seam or even adding paper will help limit tunneling. Sometimes heavy starch applied to the seamline before stitching will be helpful.
