When I turn on my Wii on the screen on my tv is totally black but you can hear the sound from the wii menu, the light on the wii is green when it's on and red when it's off, the disk player also seems to be spinning. What can I do to get my menu screen back?

I've already replaced the a/v cables and it didn't solve the problem.

Yes, I've checked the way it is hooked up and I've tried it and different cables on another tv and I still get the completely black screen, I have sound and my remotes sync...it's driving me banana's seems like it's something simple or at least I hope it is.

I've tried it on another tv and I've made sure it's hooked up properly, my remotes sync, and I have the sound but the screen is completely black. It seems to be something simple at least I hope it is...I figured the system might need to be rebooted to get the menu back?

I've checked all the cables and they're hooked up correctly, I've tried another tv, my remotes sync, my green light is on, I just have a completely black start up screen, sound is working also.

You either have a/v cables hooked up wrong or you need new a/v cables.

Ok will you need to look at how you have it hooked up. Have you tried it on another tv? Do you have regulart a/v cables plugged into the hdtv ports?

Power light is green or orange - TV screen is blank
If the power light is green or orange and your screen remains blank, follow these steps.
    1. Completely power down your system by pressing the power button for 10 seconds. If that doesn't work, unplug the AC Adapter from the Wii for a moment, then plug it back in.
    2. Make sure your Wii console has the most current Wii system menu. Download the latest update (how to), and then test your Wii console to determine if the problem has been resolved.
If you continue to experience this issue, there is a problem with the Wii console and it will need to be repaired.

Have same prolbem as kazza. have tried another tv but still cant get anything on screen cant get menu screen on tv

Does discs still load/eject into the drive? If so, you may have a corrupt HDD.

Try to boot into the recovery menu:

Power on the console (green light)
Power off using front power button (red light)
Now power on from front power button, continue holding the power button until you hear a 'beep'. Still holding the power button, a few seconds later you will hear 2 quick beeps, as soon as you hear the 2 beeps, let go of the power button and it should boot straight into the recovery menu.

From the recovery menu, choose to restore the HDD.

Wii menu will not come on when power is turned on.

Do you hear any sound when you power the console on? I assume it used to work fine? Try disconnecting all cables from the back of the Wii, waiting about 90 seconds, reattach all cables and power on. Does the power light go to green?

WII CONSOLE

When you turn the Wii on, and the light goes from red or orange to green, press A a few times (this would be to get through the warning/safety screen) then wait a minute. Then when you wave your remote about, you will feel it vibrating as it goes over the channel icons on the wii menu screen. Plus a blue light will be lit at the bottom of the remote to denote player 1.

If all of this happens, it is just a lead or TV input issue. If these things do NOT happen, the Wii is broke and needs fixing by Nintendo!

Wii black screen

The following fix should help users who do have problems with some virtual console games for the Nintendo Wii that display only a black screen after starting them while the sound remains normal. This does not work in all occasions but should work if you get the Wii menu when you press Home and works only for games that received an update for the interlaced mode.
Try out the following to see if this fixes the issue. Start the game normally until you see the black screen. Connect the Nunchuck to the Wiimote and press Home to see the menu options. Now press A + 2 + Z together which should result in a short “ping-like” sound.
This should have activated the interlaced mode. Leave the menu and you should see the normal game screen and not the black screen anymore. To change the mode again press A + 1 + Z using the same method as above
