The screen comes on that says it cannot read the disk, so we follow what the manual says, which is eject disk, turn machine off then on and wipe the disk from centre to outside and try again and the same...

Do NOT use a system cleaning disk on a Wii. You can ruin the lense and break it.

1. If your disk is not dirty or scratched, try taking it out and turning it around. The shiny side should be facing power/eject button.
2. If that doesn't work, try another disk. If the other disk works, the first disk is either damaged or defective.
3. If the second disk doesn't work, try a third.
4. If the third disk doesn't work your Wii is either damaged or defective. return it or send it to be serviced

Hi there

From what you have said it sounds like you have the DISK DRIVE READ ERROR

The main cause is Hardware failure due to overheating or just simple wear & tear.

You will need to perform simple maintenance to your console

You can send your Wii to Nintendo to fix this. If your in warranty its free. If not the repair cost would be $150 and a wait time of 4-6 weeks

The other solution is what I did and the way more and more gamers are turning nowadays is a Good Wii Repair Guide that shows you how to fix the problem yourself. I have never had a problem with this one so far for over a year, well worth it. Its my most recommended guide online.

Well this is all the help and advice I have on this so good luck.

You can get back to gaming

I'm with you Jordan. Mine just gave me this message for the first time last night. I'm desperate for a solution. I may try replacing the laser...less than $20 to do.

Just out of curiosity, what were you playing when you got the error? It wouldn't happen to be COD Black Ops, would it?

Sounds like the drive or the laser has been dis lodged and needs to be repaired. Simple if you have basic electronics repair experience. Shouldn't cost too much to be repaired at a service centre, unless parts need replacing.

Hope this has been helpful.

I would definatly contact Nintendo customer support. It sounds like your Disc drive on the Wii is going bad. They will either fix or replace your wii, if it is still under warranty then they will do so at no cost to you.

When i put games into the wii it will say it cant read disk

I've had the same problem. It was only happening once in a while, but now all of my games are doing it at some point. I get either "can not read disc" or "error, please eject disc turn off power and consult owner's manual". It is also making a buzzing or off balance sound like something may be loose inside. I bought special optical cloths to clean the discs before insertion and it did not help. I could not find a fix for it so, luckily, it is still under the extended warranty so, I sent it in. It has been about a week now and it says online that it is "completed". I assume that it will be shipping back to me soon. I'll repost if that did not fix it.
