Thanks Cindy. I have the subtitute remote but unfortunately not able to switch to the AV Mode thru that remote.

Any suggestion, on how to use that remote.?

  • prasthak Jan 01, 2011

I have a Zenith remote only and i can see the TV/VCR SOURCE button on the bottom right. However, nothing happens in the TV when i press this button, except the light blinks on the remote which usually happens whenever any button is pressed on the remote.

Do you have an idea on why nothing happens in the TV when i press TV/VCR SOURCE button.

Any other idea you can share.

You probably need the original remote or one that duplicates the TV/VCR/Source button. A number of Zenith CRTs did not include a matching button on the TV itself.

A substitute remote that will work is here: http://www.remotes.com/remotes/servlet/rs?a=Search&o=c&uid=0&m=H2511BT&uuid=12938394904380 . Other universal remotes may work (higher end ones will have a source or input button). It may take trying several codes though to get it to work. A number of codes may work for the basic TV functions but not the source feature. The universal remotes that can be programmed via a computer (USB) will be faster to set up.

I hope this helps.

Do you have the Zenith or the Redi-remote substitute remote? On the Zenith remote, the Source button is near the bottom right (between the CC and the FWD buttons). I'm not as sure on the Redi-remote; I don't have that one. Did the source button ever work with this TV (or did you not need to test it before)?

We've had a few remotes that started to have sticky buttons that wouldn't work properly. Cleaning the contacts inside the remote (between the buttons and the membrane/board) usually didn't help. However, new batteries and making sure there was no corrosion in the battery compartment helps sometimes. You can also try one of the keyboard cleaners, like this one:http://www.cyberguys.com/product-details... (this is a putty like cleaner that works around the edges of the keys).

How old is the substitute remote?

    I hope this helps.

Just for a quick check: try pressing the TV button and then the Source button. (The feature should work when the remote is controlling the TV, but it won't when controlling another device.)

If you press Enter on the remote, do you see the current channel and time listed?

The only other issue I could think of is that the controller in the TV is failing to interpret the signal. For that issue, either the unit fails to respond to any working remote or the remote is miscoded (code programmed for a slightly different Zenith TV - as I indicated could happen with other universal remotes).

With a second person and a cell phone camera or other digital camera, you can check if the remote is actually sending a signal when the key is pressed. Take a picture (of the IR beam side of the remote) just as the second person presses the key. When you look at the picture, the glow should be visible.)

    I hope this helps.

Do you know the repair history of the Zenith H2511BT? An odd thought comes to mind - did someone repair the TV and use a remote control board from another TV? (That could give the code mismatch issue.) The TV is not one that has spare parts readily available from my usual suppliers.

(I've seen more repairs to the backlight inverters cause a related issue. If you use a generic inverter because the exact part is unavailable, the brightness and contrast controls can get reversed)

Sorry the tv is to old for us to help with the av change. I would recommend a RF modulator to hook your DVD to the Tv. If you use one of the modulators you will not need to change the input of the tv to the AV. You just turn on the DVD player and it will override the Tv signal coming from the antenna or cable. On the link below is what it looks like.

Here is a link on how they get hooked up to your TV.

You do not need to get the one from Radio Shack. You can find them anywhere even wall-mart. And you can get them as low as 10.00 at some stores

Good Luck

Dvd hookup

It sounds that you are connected the TV with DVD player Via AV cable. In this case, no RF channels won't go. You have to select its AV option. Check it. Refer the user manual for TV.

How do i get to the channel to watch a dvd

You will need to connect the video and audio from your DVD to the Input of the TV. So use a RCA cord to connect from the video output /audio output of the DVD player to the AV/Input/video input/audio input of the TV. Now use your remote to select the AV channel and your video and sound will come. Do this carefully . Hope you try. Good day

Hello,
Connet the output of the cable box to the DVD player and the TV out output of the DVD player to the TV (TV must be tuned to Channel 0, Chanel 3 or 4). You should be able to use the remote to switch between the DVD signal and the cable signal.

Hope it helps.

Zenith TV has no place for yellow, red, white composite plugs

This TV doesn't have an AV input, so there are no input jacks other than the antenna connector. If you want to connect a device that has only AV outputs (your red, white and yellow plug) you will need an RF converter. This will take the AV signals and convert them to a channel 3 or 4 signal you can tune in on the set.

But since you don't seem interested in spending any money, you'll probably not like to hear that the converter runs around $15 most places. Take heart, there is an alternative. Find a VCR (if you don't have one already) that has an RF output. Many of the the newer DVD/VCR combos only have AV outputs. You're looking for one that has an "out to TV" threaded connector on the back. These units already have an RF converter built in. Connect your AV plugs to the line in jacks on the VCR and switch to that input, and you can use your video game or DVD player through the VCR.

How do i turn it into input from tv

Look for an AV button or an option through the menu. However, I have seen a few TV sets that require a remote. Try getting a universal remote if you can't find these options.

No sound when using coax...

Do you use AV inputs for your Cable box? If so, try swapping the audio inputs in the TV, that is, interchange the AV inputs for your DVD and cable box. If sound is audible in a different input, then the Audio input (for Cable) on your TV is faulty. One simple suggestion, Why don't you route your Cable signal through the Tuner of your VCR?
