You could use the CD supplyed with the router but i prefer using the web interface

Open Explorer/Firefox then enter the IP address of the router in the URL bar (if unknown and the router is your DHCP server, use IPCONFIG command in a terminal window to find out)
after loging in (user+password) if unknown try default credentials
goto *wireless setup* and the basic things you need to do is entering an SSID (the name windows wil find in wireless connection), try to put something that wont give away your identity or location (a good choice is a word in some other language that you remember)
second is the enchryption level (the worse one is WEP 64 bit), the best is WPA2, WEP uses HEXADECIMAL charactors from 0 to 9 and A to F not hard to snif with good hacking tools, WPA2 uses phrases, for the best security in WPA2 again i recommend a long word you INVENT (not from a dictionnary) ownly you can remember, than if you want bullet proofing you could enable the option to hide the SSID and use MAC filtering so ownly the computers with the MAC address you entered will be able to connect

Hope it help ya

How do I check if someone else is using my wireless connection? We have noticed another network has been set up which we did not create. Sorry I am really IT dumb :(

A quick way is to go to Control panel / Network and sharing/ view computers and devices (this can also be accessed by the little icon on the taskbar with two monitors over each other)
You will then be able to go to view computers and devices. In this box, you will see the router iceon and all the computers etc that are using the router (that are currently connected).

To see if someone not known to you has accessed the router, you would need to log onto the router address and check the security settings.

If you are concerned about your wireless connection being hacked, look in the Cd that came with the router and follow the instructions given to set up a WEP or WPA security key.

From what you describe in your question, I think that the network you are seeing is probably a network belonging to someone else, your router will "see" all other networks in the radius it can operate in, if you look at these, most will be security marked anyway, you cannot connect to them.

If yours is not secured, setting the WEP key is the only way you will stop someone logging on and using your connection

After installing when connection to net it says view network security setting what to do

Go to security settings and either follow the security setup and use WEP. (Easy security key is your whole tele#) or leave it unsecured and open for the whole neighborhood.

My wireless router was working then the wireless and security light are now off. Wireless internet is not working

Someone in your neighborhood got into your router and turn it off, so they can get and use your internet connection. I would reset the router by the reset button, and right away put a password on it, and then use mac address filtering on the router. This will only allow your computer access to the internet.

Acer notebook with Vista won't connect to home w/l network

Use this tip for a check list : band, encryption, protocol (WPA, WEP?) Do you see your radio signal (SSID)
Do you set an access list on your router? add your Vista PC MAC address to router list or disable access list control.
Be sure to browse internet using a cable connection to router
Try removing access security and check if connection performed
Restore security protection and match router/pc settings,

Can't access my encryption key anymore

You can try accessing the router setup page or the user interface of it byu typing the on the address bar of the computer that is wired to the router and working to the internet, of you can also call linksys tech support so you don't need to reset the router because they can tell you how to change and check all the settings on your router this is the number 800-3267114, but if you want to reset the router just press and hold the reset button of it for 10 seconds,,,,

Hope that helps.......
