Question about Dell Inspiron XPS M140 Notebook

1 Answer

Hi i have 2 computers in my house one is a dell m140 bought in the USA and the other is a mac computer bought in Japan. I had wireless for both computers where i lived before i moved to another part of the same city. but know only the mac can receive the wireless. The dell needs to be hooked directly to the router. The problem is that my computer cant see or find the wireless site in the same house. Heres what i have tried. I tried adding the site myself manually and it would not add the wireless site to the existing. There are several differant ways to do this and all failed to add the site. I hope this is enogh detail. And i do pay for the wireless but it came with a Japanese disk which i could only put in the mac because it was made in Japan and has Japanese built in. Thanks and thanks for any help you can give. I live in Japan

Check if the wireless switch is on. You could press FN + F2 to enable your wireless network.

I have a dell dimension E310 and wireless Internet set up in the house that I connect my iPhone to and Xbox, how do I connect my dell to it?

Locate the key on the wireless internet setup router, and be sure that your computer is using the same key, in order that it connect to the router properly.
Another suggestion is to use the MAC address - a unique to each piece of computer gear - and register the MAC Address from your Dell in the table of the router, such that no other computer, unless registered with the router in that way, can gain access to your WiFi.It is actually more secure than using encryption, since only one device can have a MAC address of each type. They are unique in all the computer world. Like a fingerprint.

Good luck.

I recommend Netgear or Linksys wireless routers/modems.

My XPS M140 is slow. It pauses for no reason

If the system is pausing for 10-30 seconds , there could be some bad sectors on the harddrive or , there are some unwanted programs running in the background
To check if your hdd is working fine
1. restart your computer
2. And press the F12 key slowly 5 times
3. Run onboard diagnostics on the hdd.

Thanks for using Fixya
