Question about Weber Q120(LP) Grill

1 Answer

Only used the grill once and had no problem starting it. The second time we tried to use it , it wouldn't light. Tried a new canister, still wouldn't light. What could the problem be?

Are you able to tell if there's any spark coming from the igniter? If not, you may try cleaning it. If it doesn't spark and/or click; your igniter may be faulty.
Next try turning it on and lighting with a match; use a long one. :-)
If it lights in this manner; that should tell you there is something wrong with the igniter.
Could be out of alignment, loose, broken, etc....
If it still isn't lighting; the problem is likely a gas flow issue.
Make sure the burners are clean and dry. If you stored it a while after that initial use; you may even have had some critters get into the gas tube/burner. Make sure that's all clear. Try to light with a match. If it's still not working. It's likely either the gas valve(flame adjustment knob) or the regulator. More likely it's the latter.
With it being so lightly used, I'm not sure why the regulator would go out, but it happens.
One thing I'm not sure of, but your regulator may have some sort of safety mechanism that is shutting the gas flow off, you may want to look into that. If you've got the manual and/or instructions still, it may very well indicate any safeties to look into before replacing the regulator.

Good luck!

Brand new with brand new one pound Coleman canister. Spent hours trying to get it lit. Seems like lp is not coming through. Removed canister and replaced many times. Dont smell lp.

if you got the cannister from the shop with the grill the chances are that the cannister needs filling first as gas bottles are empty when new.

No gas will go into burner

Whether you're using a screw on canister or a 20 lb LP Gas Grill Tank, the problem and the solution are the same.

To solve this problem, first be sure you have adequate gas in the tank or canister. If that checks out OK, do the following:

1. Turn the gas tank valve OFF and disconnect the hose from the tank or the canister from the gas valve.

2. Wait 5 minutes and reconnect the hose to the tank or screw the canister to the gas valve..

3. Open the tank valve VERY, VERY SLOWLY (Slow motion, slow).

4. Once the tank valve is fully open, light the burner farthest from the tank first and set the burner
control knob on HIGH. Does the flame height look correct for being set on HIGH? If so, light
the remaining burners the same way. Do all the burner flames look correct? If so, you solved
the problem. Remember, to always open the tank valve Very, Very Slowly.

If that didn't solve the problem, you will need to replace the grill's Hose/Regulator Assembly. It runs about $30.00 at any home center or hardware store that sells grills & accessories. If you are using a gas canister, you will need to replace the entire gas valve. In which case, you can find it at the following link. http://www.appliancefactoryparts.com/search/partinfo.php?partsID=31463&modelsID=10593&typeName=gas If you replace it, turn the tank valve ON Very, Very Slowly.

Hope this helped you to troubleshoot and solve the problem. Happy Grilling!! Thanks for choosing FixYa.

Model Q200, Propane model Get no flame on the burner. Apparently, getting no gas. Something seems to be stopped up. What to do?

Whether you're using a 20 Lb Propane Grill Tank or a screw in gas canister, the solution to the problem is the same .

1. Be sure you have enough gas in the tank or canister to maintain proper ignition.

2, If the above checks out OK. Turn the LP tank valve OFF or if you're using a screw-on canister
turn the gas valve OFF.

3. Disconnect the hose from the tank or unscrew and remove the gas canister.

4. Wait 5 minutes and reconnect the hose to the tank or reattach the canister to the gas valve.

5. Open the gas valve VERY, VERY SLOWLY (Slow Motion, slow). Once the valve is full open, light
the burner & turn it to HIGH. Did the burner light and does the flame height look correct?
If so, you solved the problem. Remember to always open the tank valve Very, Very Slowly.

if the above didn't solve the problem, you will either need to replace the Hose/Regulator Assembly or the Gas Valve/ Canister Holder. The Hose/Regulator Assembly you can pickup from any home center or hardware store that sell grills & accessories for about $30.00. If it's the Gas Valve/Canister Holder, you will have to purchase that from Weber or from Factory Appliance Parts http://www.appliancefactoryparts.com/gasgrillparts/brands/weber/q200.html Part # WEB4195 ($29.99) The adapter hose is also available there if you want to make it a one stop shop for $32.99

I hope ths helped you and thanks for choosing FixYa. Happy Grilling!!

TEC Sterling II, Pilot light not lighting ceramic burners. Got new ignitor. It does create a spark but it doesn't jump to the pilot light or to the burners.

The gas may not be reaching the burners. Try match lighting a burner to see if it is. If it isn't do the following.

To solve this problem, first be sure you have adequate gas in the tank. If that checks out OK, do the following:

1. Turn the gas tank valve OFF and disconnect the hose from the tank. If you're using as 1 Lb
Canister tank. Turn the valve off and remove the canister.

2. Wait 5 minutes and reconnect the hose to the tank. Reinsert the canister.

Or you will have to replace the Canister Assembly. For that you'll have to go to Tec Grills. If you replace it, turn the tank valve ON Very, Very Slowly.

Hope this helped you.

Hope this helped you to troubleshoot and solve the problem. Happy Grilling.

We have a brand new George Forman Grill2Go propane grill for outdoor use. We followed the directions for assemblying the regulator to the propane bottle, did the test for leaks, etc, But when we turned on...

You got part of the solution correct. The 5 minute part, but you skipped a couple of steps.

Turn the gas tank valve OFF. Disconnect the hose from the tank. Wait 5 minutes and reconnect the hose to the tank. Open the tank valve VERY, VERY, Slowly (Slow motion, slow). Once the valve is fully open, turn the burner ON and push the ignitor button. When the burner lights, turn it to it's highest setting. If you have 2-burners, light the second the same way you did the first one. Do all the flame heights look correct? If so, you solved the problem.

If the above didn't solve the problem. you will need to replace the grill's hose/regulator assembly. As the OPD Valve in the gas tank, permanently locked up the regulator. Since your is a brand new grill with warranty that's enforce, contact the manufacturer for a replacement. Have you proof of Purchase handy, when you call them.

Hope this helped you solve the problem. Happy Grilling!!

Hi, We have a Grande Cafe , it is 6 years old,

I think the problem is with the Over Fill Protection Device valve in the propane tank and it's locked up the grill's regulator. To solve the problem turn the tank valve OFF. Disconnect the grill's hose from the tank and wait 5 minutes. Reconnect the hose to the tank and turn the tank valve ON VERY, VERY SLOWLY (Slow motion, slow). Once the valve is fully open, turn on and light the burner that farthest from the grill first. Does the burner light and the flame height look correct? If so, light the remaining burners the same way. Now, do all the burners flames look correct? If so, you solved the problem. Remember to always turn the tank valve ON very, very slowly.

If the above didn't solve the problem, you will need to replace the grill's hose/regulator assembly. You can purchase one at any home center or hardware store that sells gas grills and accessories. Take your old one with you for comparison purposes.

Hope this helped you to solve the problem. Please let me know. Thanks and Happy Grilling!!

Tried out new weber performer grill, gas assist lights up right away, but goes out in about 2 - 3 minutes, tried restart no go, 16 oz bottle empty, tried my back up same result. Online research indicated...

Temperature does have a substantial effect on LP.

Propane will not flow properly when it is too cold.

You might warm up the canister to room temperature before grilling, but I'm not sure if that will let you finish grilling first.
