When you turn your computer on, keep hitting F2 and when it loads up, run the CD ROM first and it would allow it to run the CD from there.

How do i log onto widows sign in screen if i have forgotten my password?

You can bypass windows password with Smartkey Windows Password Recovery, just do as the following steps,

Step1: Get Windows Password Recovery from: http://www.recoverlostpassword.com/products/windowspasswordrecovery.html.
Step2: Install and launch it to any accessible computer.
Step3: Use a blank and writable CD/DVD to burn Windows password reset disk with the tool.
Step4: Boot the locked computer from CD/DVD.
Step5: Start to perform Windows password hack with the burned disk.
Step6: Reboot computer and login to the machine without password.
(Note: Before starting password hack on Windows process with Windows Password Recovery, you need to find another accessible computer and an empty CD/DVD.)

When turned on my computer boots only to the E and Windows logo and then to a black and white screen telling me that windows did not start successfully, with a list of choices as to safe or normal booting....

As much as I hate to say it, you have done almost all the trouble shooting you can. The only other thing is to see about getting an external CD ROM and trying those restore disks. If that doesn't work, then the only choices you would have is either buying a new windows CD or getting a new computer and possibly installing Linux on this one.

My dell 600 goes into the blue screen and Wont Load (Error mesg)

This is quite common, and easy to fix, I have included a link below to help you.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/811014

Insert the Windows Recovery CD into the disk drive and reboot the computer.
Check the computer's boot order. This must be done from the BIOS set-up before boot begins. Pressing "F2" will start the BIOS set up on most PCs. (This is not always the case, and the boot screens will tell you which button will take you to the system set-up.) Make sure that your CD drive comes before your hard disk in the boot order.
Select the drive with the Windows installation you wish to repair when you see the menu to select a hard disk drives. If you have mistakenly swapped a Windows Installation CD for the recovery disk, enter the automated system recovery and place the recovery disk in the drive when prompted to do so.
Select the drive that needs to be prepared. You will be asked for the administrator password. Enter the administrator account password if one has been set up.
Type "expand d:\i386\ntoskrnl.ex_ c:\windows\system32." Windows is not case sensitive, but you must spell the commands correctly. This copies the ntoskernel.exe file to the approrpriate directory.
Press "Y" when the program asks if you want to proceed.
Enter the exit command and the reboot the system. Take the CD out of the drive and Windows should load correctly.

I am installing a recovery disk for an emachines computer and i get error message stating that the system 32hal.dll is missing or corrupt. i cant get back to the windows screen to install the missing file...

You have to start your PC with the XP cd-rom install disk, if you have
one.

Then, when you come to the screen with the following option displayed :

To repair a Windows XP installation using
Recovery Console, press R.

Then press [R] to start 'Recovery Console'

When confronted by a prompt asking you for Administrator password - just
press [ENTER]

Once in RC has started - type the following command :

expand x:\i386\hal.dl_ c:\windows\system32\hal.dll

(where [x:] is your cd drive-letter)

*NB If SP3 is installed - then the command you type must be :

copy c:\windows\ServicePackFiles\i386\hal.dll c:\windows\system32

....instead, as the files are of two different revision levels
(versions).

Then reboot.

Ran the Tshibery disk recovery disk. Completed and

Complete the recovery again but leave the discs in the computer. That way if the computer needs some files while rebooting it will take them off the cd....if not it will load and that will be the end of that. Just remember when you boot the computer for the first time to initiate the recovery, when it says to boot from cd touch any key...that is only done one time when you first initiate the recovery...after that do not touch any key if it says that...just let windows boot on it own. Once windows boots on its own, then you can take the recovery disc out and put it away.

Can't Sign into Windows...How to do system reboot if I can't log in to windows?

Hi e_norris

Do you have either the Windows installation disk or a Recovery Disk. Some manufacturers ship the Recovery Disk with the PC others require you to create one when you first turn the computer on.

I am doing a clean install from the recovery disk, eveything went fine, all the files copied over, but when it rebooted a message window popped up and said "Windows setup cannot configure Windows to run on...

There might be a bios setting that you have too set for the recovery mode. If you can get into the BIOS then check to see if there's a setting for recovery. You can also try at boot up (before the Windows error) to hit Ctrl-F10.

sounds like you need to reinstall the operating system. if you don't have the disk you can call acer and they will send you the disk. they might charge you for the disk usually between $15 and $30.

I have a presariov2000 lap top and I need to restore it to the manufacturer

Recovery Disks No longer come with HP Desktops/Laptops. There is a built-in program in your Program Files that allows the user to create their own set of recovery disks. But you may not need to use the recovery disks to bring the computer back to the manufacturer state. All the Windows XP and programs that come with your computer are on the hard drive on a separate D:RECOVERY partition you can see in My Computer. But you should create the recovery disks in case the Recovery Partition built on your hard drive becomes corrupted.

Several ways to recover your Laptop and how to create a set of Recovery Disks: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00608578&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=us&lang=en&rule=21872&product=500508

Without the Recovery disks:

Right after you turn on your computer, start Tapping the F11 key. Shortly after the HP Logo screen disappears you should enter the System Recovery.

Click next and on the next screen they should be some information about System Recovery. After each screen that you click next (Go Slow so you don't miss it) One of the screens should have 2 options near the top:

System Restore
Advanced Option

At the bottom of this screen will be another Next Button. Do Not click next right away because this will start a "Non-Destructive" Recovery where the computer will only restore Windows files to the factory default but the addition data and programs you or someone may have put on the computer will still be on the computer after this recovery as well as they may not work properly since all the Windows files have been defaulted back to factory settings.

At the top, click Advanced. You should then get an option to perform the "Destructive" Recovery which will recover the computer completely back to Manufacturer Default. Choose the Destructive recovery and click next.

This process can take awhile, let it finish to completion (Do not turn off your computer or stop this process in the middle of the recovery, or you WILL need disks to recover the Laptop)

After it finishes, the computer will prompt you to reboot. Reboot the computer, it will boot you into a new Windows where it will do some final configuration and will be back to the manufacturer default.

Remember, this will wipe out all your data, so if you have anything of importance on the computer, Back up the data first, and its recommened that you do regular backups when the computer is working as well.
