I had same problem last week. My GE JVM1650 Spacemaker stopped after a few seconds of heating. Owned 16 months, manufactured Jan 2005. It was the magnetron, which was replaced yesterday. The magnetron has a 10-year warranty, but I had to pay $161.00 for labor by a GE technician. The call-out fee was waived at my request. I don't know what that amount would have been, but I can't believe the $161.00 for what was about 1/2 hour labor once diagnosed. Good Luck!

Gosh, things seem to fall apart here when I take a few days off! *grin* On GE models, the most common "no heat" problems are a bad magnetron and a bad door switch. Since yours in only 3 years old, the magnetron is still under warranty. Your being inside the unit will void that warranty if detected. You should contact GE Customer Relations at 1-800-386-1215 (8-6 ET) to pursue warranty service. If you or a friend decide to work on it, we have *critical* safety, disassembly, and troubleshooting info (as well as a text file which helps in diagnosing and repairing door switch problems) at our site, which is linked at our listing here on FixYa: http://tinyurl.com/yzjozk You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number (without the suffix) here: http://tinyurl.com/gv383

Chances are you have a bad connection, maybe the cook relay or at the magnetron, but feel free to write back with details when it fails again.

SOURCE: microwave stopped heating!!
This should be an easy fix.
This is usually caused by either a bad door switch or a loose door switch mount.
Door switch or mount trouble is usually caused by slamming the door or by opening the door while it's cooking without hitting the Stop pad first.
There are plastic mounts inside the microwave which hold the door switches and onto which the door latches lock when you close the door.
The screws on these mounts may be loose. If they get too loose, the switches will not be activated properly.
Sometimes it's a broken tab on the switch holder, allowing the switch to rotate just out of position. This tab can be hard to see, since it is under the bottom edge of the switch.
You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts by entering your full model number here.
There should also be a "mini-manual" hidden inside the unit behind the control panel or hidden on the left side behind the grille, which is very helpful when troubleshooting & testing.
At our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.
If you only need a switch, you can order a universal type here for $5 postpaid.
If you think the problem is on the control panel, we repair these nationwide by mail for $39.95 postpaid in most cases.

I have a GE Over the oven microwave Model JVM1660BB. When heating it had started making a low humming noise. I could open the door and then close it, and the noise stopped. Now the oven won't heat at all. the light comes and the fan works. Jimbo
