Your excellent description of the buttons sounds like UPM EC420 or 420C
Link below has drawings of timer, and links to manual
http://waterheatertimer.org/UPM-timers-and-manuals.html#ET420C

Instruction manual is too many characters long to fit allowed space for fixya answers, so if you need help with particular part of manual, add a comment and I will give additional free help.

Also take advantage of fixya phone service.
For a price, fixya expert reads manual to you over the phone while you program the timer.

SunSmart 15312 - timer has power and will turn lights on/off manually but will not turn on/off automatically after setting program.

Sun Smart is new GE timer.
http://waterheatertimer.org/GE-timers-and-manuals.html#15312

There is no repair for defective timer, except buy another at Home Depot and return defect in new package.
When I bought 15312 timer for testing, I found many packages at Home Depot were taped together as if people returned the timer. The large aluminum fin shows that timer is expected to get warm.
When testing the timer, the door stuck, and the timer seemed cheaply made. Intermatic brand timers are more robust at this time.
The instruction manual is not clearly written as could be, and timer requires a lot of button pushes for each setting.

Because the instruction manual is complex, requiring multiple button pushes for each setting, I suggest writing out the steps to make sure nothing is skipped over.

If lights turn on-off with override, then timer should be wired correctly.
Be sure to reset timer before programming.
Press setup button twice to begin programming.
Check programming for conflicts and overlaps that will cause timer not to function as expected.
For example selecting days of week. If program1 ON says turn on at 7:00 pm all days of week, and program1 OFF says off at 9:00 pm Tuesday.
Another point of confusion is Dawn-Dusk-Time. If you want timer to turn ON at 7:00, then select Time.

Ok i got a timer from glode but i dont know the model. so what can i said i got a push button in front and when i push it a letter f with the number 0 to 9 appeares. after that the letter r and d whit the...

1) Good clues on description: It's a dawn-to-dusk timer.
F is always ON or always OFF.
O is always OFF or always ON.
1 thru 9 is timer turns ON at dusk and turns OFF 1 to 9 hours later.
D is ON at dusk and OFF at dawn.
R is probably timer turns ON immediately then turns OFF 1 to 9 hours later.
Best guess: At 8 pm you press button until R9 displays, and then timer will turn ON each day at 8pm and OFF each day at 5am.

2) Open following links to find same-similar timer and check which one matches your product.

How to set on at 4 pm and off at 7am

You posted under intermatic 1020 timer
If this is not your timer, add a comment

How to set timer.
Remove dial from body of timer.
So now the timer is apart in 2 pieces.
Silver ON trippers and brass OFF trippers can be removed.

Place trippers in times you want timer to operate.
In this case, set silver ON tripper at 4pm
Set brass OFF tripper at 7am
Timer comes with 2 pair of trippers, so you will only use one pair.
Save the extra pair of trippers for when 1st pair of trippers wears out.

Snap timer back together.
Manually rotate dial around to watch lights come on.
To set current time, rotate dial until current time lines up with mark.

Dial rotates with passing time.
Tripper rotates around with dial.
When tripper contacts on-off lever, it physically moves lever like turning light switch on-off.
ON tripper moves lever one direction.
OFF tripper moves lever opposite direction.

Hi , i have tried what you mention for hb88rc let say i am doing the programing and it is currently 10 am. (example) i want it to be on at 7am and off at 7pm for the entire week i do as the instruction...

You happened to catch the same guy that answered before.

Lets go through the exact programming steps:
Your schedule is ON at 7am and Off at 7pm ALL week.

1) Set the clock to current time:
Hold down clock button while doing next steps
Press Hour button until correct Hour am-pm shows (10:00am for example)
Press MIN button until correct minute shows.
>>> Now wait, the manual seems to leave off a step here... it doesn't say to enter current day.
OK, lets make sure current day is set.
I guess you press Day button until current day shows.
Now release the clock button.

geno_3245_32.jpg

2) Program the timer to your schedule:
Press and release PROG button.
press it once and Program1 ON is ready to be programmed

Press DAY button as many times as it takes until all days show at top of display.
Press Hour button until 7 am shows in display
Double check that the time is AM
Press MIN button until :00 shows in display

4) ON time for Program1 is set
We are ready to set OFF time for Program1.

5) Press the PROG button until the display shows Program1 OFF just like photo below
Notice that the number 1 and the word OFF appear on display

geno_3245_34.jpg

6) Ready to set Program1 OFF
Press DAY button as many times as it takes until all days show at top of display.
Press Hour button until 7 pm shows in display
Double check that the time is PM
Press MIN button until :00 shows in display
OFF time for Program1 is set

7) Programming is complete, and we are ready to use the timer
(If you want more programs, press PROG button until program2 ON shows in display)

8) To exit programming, press the CLOCK button.

HI, got a problem to start intermatic hb88rc , wont strat after programing

http://www.intermatic.com/products/timers/consumer%20outdoor%20timers/digital%20timers/hb88rc.aspx

http://www.intermatic.com/~/media/files/intermatic/products/instructions/timers/hb88rc%20-%20english.ashx

Let's do a checklist:
> The battery has to be installed before you program timer, so that is good.
> Press Mode button and it over-rides current program ... so mode button acts as the manual override. Try manual override and see if Load comes on.
> The manual override is the real test. Plug something else into timer and use the manual override to see if timer is able to complete a circuit.
> If manual override works then your programming is suspect. (see more below)
> If manual override does not work then electric circuit is off, or timer is bad.
> After using manual override, press clock to return to current time
> Make sure Mode is not set to random
> The clock must be keeping correct time, or you would have mentioned it
> Check that the electrical plug has power.
> Check that the Load (light, fan) operates fine without the timer.

Programming problems:
> The timer program calls for ON time and OFF time for each program. If the ON time was skipped, then timer will not turn ON.
> If there is a conflict in programming, the timer will not operate as expected. For example program1 says ON at 7 and OFF at 8, but program2 says the opposite.
> Another example is when the AMs and PMs are mixed. For example you want ON at 7am TU and OFF at 7PM TU. But the timer was set for ON at 7am and Off at 7am.
> When programming, write out a schedule so there are no conflicts.
> The ON and OFF functions should follow the same days. For example ON is set for 7am TU but Off is set for ALL week.
