Question about Sub-Zero Refrigerators

1 Answer

I have a 4 year old Sub Zero 736TC. The fridge door does not close easily, I have to push it shut. The problem is that the door has dropped and the bottom of the door (away from the hinges) is hitting on the frame. I can see scratch marks on the bottom frame and see it rub against the frame as the door closes. I cannot figure out how to adjust the door. Can you help please?

This means that your unit is unable to dissapate the heat where it is intended to, the condenser unit. Open the top panel and check the condenser unit to see if it is clogged with debris. It will be on the rh side and looks similar to a car radiator. If it is dirty, clean it. Also, check to see if the fan is running that blows through the condenser. It should be running whenever the compressor motors are. If it is not blowing, replace it.

SOURCE: I want to reverse the hinges.

Only if the fridge is set up for this. Look at the top right corner of the case and see if there is a plastic plug. If there is it is drilled and tapped for the mounting hardware that is being used on the left. Remove the hinges and put them on the right side. The door handle should have the same set up.

Our Sub Zero 736TC has water that puddles under the vegetable drawer. I've read that I may need to clean the evaporator tube but can't find instructions how to do that. Help?

The drain at the rear of the fridge is possibly clogged. To check: Remove all the shelves and crisper in fridge, remove the lighting diffuser panel you will then see 3 screws at the top of the back panel. Undo these screws and lift the panel up and out. This will expose the drain trough at the rear base of the fridge compartment. There is a small drain hole right in the middle of the trough. I found mine to be completely clogged and the trough was overflowing into the fridge compartment.Use a small wire (I used a twist tie wire) to poke into the hole and open up the drain. This should stop the problem, as any water will now drain to the tray in the base and evaporate.
I also found that the door was really hard to open immediately after it was closed and after I cleared the drain this problem wnet away (I think the clogged drain was allowing a vacuuum to be created in the fridge when the door closed.

You might have a dirty condenser or possibly a freon leak. Check to see if the fans are running and lights are going off when the doors are closed. You didn't mention what the model number is, that might help.

Maybe I'm not understanding your question completely.. You can open the doors whenever you want - as often as you like. The doors are no different than any other fridge as far as how often you can open and close them. Please clarify if I missed your intent. Thanks!

Door not closing properly

Hi: The Kitchenaid refs. us a gravity close along with the magnets in the door seals. Magnets getting weak seals getting old and what you told me you checked can cause this. The easy fix is to raise the front of the fridge by lowering the front wheels. Pull the grill off the front and find the leveling screws (usually labeled.) Raise the front of the fridge until the doors swing shut with a gentle push. Before you replace the grill make sure the fridge dosn't rock side to side as you want it even. This is what they call leveling a fridge. Not cabinet level. Just sturdy. Hope I helped, Jeff

Just a guess, but I would check the gasket on the door. They can go bad or get distorted and bunch up and cause the door to bind and not close properly. Also check that the fridge is leveled properly. Will the door close if pushed? Will it stay closed?
