The problem is you are running lean. The first thing you should do is dump the fuel out of the tank, lines and carburetor. The second thing you need to do is remove the float bowl and clean it out. The problem is either water holding the float in the up position, or stale fuel is got it "glued" in the up positon. You need to correct whichever it is. The needle jet needs to move freely to allow fuel flow. This may require you to remove the carb. to clean it correctly. The middle part, the part that sticks down through the float, has the main jet in it. This will also need to be removed and checked to make sure it is open. One of these reasons is the cause of your problems.

Hope this was usefull to you, Matt

I have a toro recycler model 20371 with the kohler 6.75 149 cc has auto choke it has spark just put new carb on it but still wont start it sputters but nothing do i need to turn the auto choke when i hook...

I am not sure what your question is here, but let me see if I can help:

When you say it sputters, is the engine producing a lot of smoke, like it's getting too much fuel? If so, the choke may be part of the issue. If not, the air fuel mixture may be too lean and you may need to turn the low speed screw out. Start with 1/4 turn and work from there. Too much, and you will flood the engine.

Opening the choke to start a cold engine can cause it to run rough, sputter and stall. Even though it may be 85 out, the engine is still not up to operating temperature - it is still cold. The choke needs to closed to allow the engine to get the extra fuel until it is started and going.

Another thing to check with the new carb is that it is tightened properly. Too loose - extra air gets in. Too tight - you can bind movement inside - generally not a big issue. And way too tight and you can crack the mount on the carb and it will leak air.

Remember that a model of a carb can be used on many different engines, so they are set for the most common air / fuel mix. This may not be the one you need. And even if it is, it will still need tweaking.

One last thing - though probably not the case - make sure you are getting good fuel flow. I doubt that is the issue, but it could be adding to it.

Good luck!

Toro Proline 52" stalls out after warming up

Do you know if that unit has a fuel pump or not? If not, then engine vacuum is what draws the fuel in ... but only IF the hoses involved DON'T have any cracks or splits, and they fit TIGHT on the ports to which they connect! Try using an eye dropper and squirt a little gas in the air intake under the air cleaner. Does it fire then?

My toro snowblower keeps stalling. It starts up fine, but won't run continuously.

If you haven't already, dump out gas and put fresh in it and try this, if it doesn't work you will have to clean the carb, take it apart and clean all jets ports etc and put back together and you should be Good to Blow Snow, pretty common problem with Small Engines that set half the season.

Engine starts but won't continue to run. Choke doesn't stay closed after starting. will stay running only if I hold choke closed manually.

let it warm up with choke closed manually after it starts to stall with choke closed open it and dont let it stall u can learn to play with the choke a little to get it to run right GOOD LUCK!

Hello I have a 8 horsepower craftsman show thrower, the engine is stuttering I think it's because it is running on CHOKE. the lever is loose and I have no idea how to replace or tighten it. Help! snow is...

Hi, You will have remove the carburetor shroud and then check the linkages from the choke lever to the choke.
Unfortunately Craftsman does not give detailed parts listings for most of the motors on snowblowers on either their manual site, or their parts site, but I suggest you check anyway. You need the model number of your snow blower. Iit will look like 123.123456.
Even if you can't find a parts breakdown I suggest taking the shroud off if you are at all familiar with working on your mower. The shroud on a snowblower just covers the carb like the air cleaner on your mower. If you can use a screwdriver and hand tools, you can do it. Take pictures with your cell phone or draw diagrams showing each piece as you take it off.

I have a toro snowblower that quit running last year. The screw which held the choke plate in place is missing and I can't find it. Is it possible the screw is in side the motor? I removed the carburater...

I have seen them go through the engine into the muffler. Did you check the valves if it damaged them. I would check for spark first if that is good put a tea spoon full of gas in the spark plug hole and try to start. If it fires you need to clean the carb. If not i would do a compression test that will tell you if the screw damaged anything.
