Question about GE Spacemaker JVM1640SJ Microwave Oven

1 Answer

The Cook Time I use to work, not it wants a code and if I put in a number it will start. But I can't set a cook time or power level. The Cook Time II works ok, except I can't use the number 1; defrost works fine. I can set the clock time, but it doesn't keep time. All worked until I cleaned it today - took the little plastic vent off the top of the unit to clean the grease out. Its a jVM 130001. Thank you for any help.

Is it possible that some cleaner got into the controls? That'll kill them quickly.

Hopefully it will dry out on its own. I'd unplug it overnight.

If not, then either there is moisture on the control board (which can be dried or allowed to dry) or in the layers of the membrane keypad.

But the membrane keypad may not be available any longer. It is part number WB27X287 and if it still available, it may take a week or so to get it, it will probably be about $150-180, and you can try to order it from the Pros here, the Sears Parts Direct Web site The Cook Time I use to work, not it wants a code - image-4235112-10659157 or from Encompass here.

At our Web site, we have a video available showing how to remove a typical over the range control panel assembly in under 5 minutes.

We do board repair, so let us know via our site if we can help further.

How do I change temp and time while food is cooking?

all is explained in the user manual
if you have just put food in the even and pressed the start several times to get a number of minutes to cook but want to increase that time just press start again the number of times that you want the cook time to increase
for example :-
you put a frozen pie in the oven and your start operates in 30 second increments and you have pushed it 3 times and it starts cooking-BUT - you read the cooking instructions and it says cook for 4 minutes, just press the start another 3 times while it is cooking
the new cook time will show on the display

How do you change the power level?

On most brands, you enter the cook time, then press the "Power Level" key, followed by the using a single digit key for the desired power percentage, then hitting "Start".
EXAMPLE: Too cook for one minute at 30% power:
Time Cook > 1 > 0 > 0 > Power Level > 3 > Start
A possible alternative key combination may be:
Time Cook > 1 > 0 > 0 > Power Level > Power Level >Power Level > Start

How to set microwave 50%

You have to put the cook time in first and then you press the power level button (just below the number 7 on the keypad) and put the power level in. The choices are 1 through 10. Fifty percent is probably power level 5. Once you have put in the power level, just push the Start button and it will start cooking.

How do you set the power level? The model number is: JVM1730DM1WW The serial number is: MM901698B

Assuming your touch pad is working properly, press Time Cook (for cooking) or Time Defrost (for defrosting) and then type in the length of time that you want the microwave to operate. Then press Power Level and type in a number from 1-10. Finally press Start. Depending on the GE microwave, the Power Level button may be above 2 or to the left of 0. (I've seen both keypad designs depending on when and where the microwave was manufactured.) If you press Power Level before setting the cooking time, the unit will reset when you press Time Cook or Time Defrost.

GE has the manuals for some of their microwaves on their site. See http://www.geappliances.com/service_and_support/literature/ and enter the model number in the search engine.

I hope this helps.

My mother just bought an Emerson MW8119 Microwave and can't figure out how to only set say 15 seconds cook time. Is it possible?

Hi! I just purchased the same microwave, and came online to find the solution. I was then able to find the correct answer to this problem. On this model, Emerson does not put a "time cook" button for odd cook times such as 15 seconds. Instead, they have you push the "Power Button" prior to setting the cook time.

If you want to cook on full power, press the power button once, and then enter your cooking time and press start. If you want to cook on 50% power or 30% power or something like that, push the "Power Button" several times until the appropriate power level is displayed, then enter the cook time and press start.

The reason that it starts up right away when *********** pushes the 1 button is because Emerson has the quick cooking feature for 1 minute through 6 minutes. You only have to push the number once to get the 1 minute cook time or anywhere through 6 minutes respectively.

Hope this helps!

.
Normally you press Cook Time, enter the numbers for the time,
then Cook Power, then 5 and then Start.

But it might be easier to just download your owner's manual. You can find it here at the main Whirlpool site's Owner Center:
