In case you do not have it yet, you can use up to 1GB per slot of PC2-6400 RAM on your laptop, and you generally have 2 or 3 doors on the bottom of the PC that can be easily unscrewed with a #0 screwdriver. Make sure to take care when touching any parts inside of your laptop as most parts are very sensitive to static electricity. Get an inexpensive static wristband to ground yourself before going under the hood. Also make sure that the notches line up on both chips before inserting.. in my newbie days i have cracked both the chip and the socket, so be a little gentle, you don't need much force especially on a laptop.

I have msi motherboard p4nsli with 1 stick 2gb memory but in booting the memory shows only 512 mb instead of 2gb,..what seems to be the problem & a posible solution for this? Thank you.

Your MSI motherboard may use Interleave RAM. This means you need to insert 1Gb RAM modules in each pair of memory slots.
If your motherboard has 4 memory slots and they are color coded in pairs, then this motherboard uses Interleave RAM. Insert 1Gb RAM modules into the menory slots that have the same color.

try to see if that memory is supported with your motherboard. The memory has something to do with that problem.

Problem with upgrading my acer extensa 5620z memory to 4GB

Hi there.
I recommend you get another stick of SODIMM to replace what seems to be the faulty stick.
If you are using XP or Vista X86 (32bit) then the system will only recognize 2.8 - 3GB of memory, only 64bit operating systems recognize the full 4GB.

Good luck ad thanks for using FixYa!!

My Acer Lap-top Aspire 5570Z with 80GB HDD & 512 MB DDR2 is very very slow. Can its DDR2 be upgraded to 2 GB.

what the max ram is for this laptop? I bought 2x2GB dual channel ram for it and windows vista home premium (32bit) only recognizes upto 2GB, but CPU-Z recognizes more than that.

Upgrade problems

Your system comes stock with one stick of DDR2 (512 MB), which means that it is _ not_ dual channel DDR2 memory as dual channel DDR2 must be installed in matched pairs. Try to exchange the new memory for 2G of some single channel DDR2.

Ram upgrade on Sony Viao PCVRS420

You can use even 1 stick of 2GIG of RAM or 2 X 1GIG of RAM or any combination will do for as long it will just be a max of 2GIG since that's the max support of your motherboard....
