Pay attention to steps 6 & 7

Here's some tricks I would try...
1. Verify the monitor's power cord is plugged firmly into the wall outlet and the back of the monitor.
2. Verify the monitor cable is firmly connected to the computer and the monitor.
3. Verify that you have turned the monitor power switch on.
4. If the power light on the monitor is not on, test the wall outlet (plug in a light or something you know works).
5. If the power light on the monitor is not on, try a different power cord.
6. If the power light is on and yellow or orange or flashing, but nothing displays, or the display is incorrect, borrow a monitor from a friend. If that works, your monitor probably needs replaced.
7. Also, you could try your display on a friend's computer. If it doesn't work, your monitor probably needs replaced. If it works properly on your friends computer, the problem may be with your computers video output port, motherboard video chip (or video card, if you have one), or drivers.

Tip

How to save power even you are still using old VGA Monitor

Older monitors(CRT type) are using complex circuit than LCD, It requires more power consumption than LCD, but you can still save power by 30% through this tip.
1.You must position or install your monitor in a dark area or position.
2.Adjust the brightness control to the level of the black part of the picture must be seen black not gray, or became white.
3. Adjust the contrast control at your most comfortable level.
4.Avoid using bright picture screen saver or blank screen saver.
5.Turn off your monitor manually if necessary.

Computer turns on, but there is no output to monitor. i can heard hard drive turning, as well as fan, and fan on video card turns as well. i have plugged monitor into both vga ports on the back, but still...

i can't spot the exact problem as these type of problems originate from a large variety of hardware and software malfunctioning

but here's the basic procedure:

first basic rule of trouble shooting is to swap the suspected hardware.

1- first of all check the brightness and contrast settings of your monitor. When set to zero can create a similar scenario
if this doesn't work then
2- Swap the monitor with a good working one... borrow it from a friend and test your monitor.
if monitor is not at fault then

3- check the power chord - swap it with a good working one.

if all of the above fails then there is a problem with your display adapter ....
take your pc to a technician and let him examine it.

hope your problem get's solved

Thanks in advance

LCD back light is off or very dim

I changed monitors and it works??? What worked. Did the brightness appear? Is the monitor now functioning properly?

If not, monitors can have increase brightness by using the menu settings. The settings can be accessed by the buttons that are usually below the monitor screen on the front under panel. Adjust the brightness from there.

If that fails then change the monitor. That you are suggesting that the backlight is out, I am assuming that you have a flatpanel monitor and not a CRT. Either can be configured the same way using the menu buttons; however, the back light issues are different in the two types of monitor.

Good Luck

Screen is too bright, and all text and videos are blurred

If this is a conventional tube-type monitor, you need to replace it. Your symptom is one of the ways a picture can fail. With the low prices on LCD monitors today, it's completely uneconomical to repair the old one. It would need a new tube.

I have a SyncMaster as well, and it has been fine for 5 years. What you are describing sound like the backlight is getting dimmer, which is either a power supply or control board, neither of which are easy to replace. With good monitors getting below $150, I would have a hard time spending too much money to get an old monitor fixed.

Hi, my hp montior has started to become blurred.

Hi,

Assuming that your HP monitor is conventional CRT type and thatno hardware/component fault, the dimness of a monitor signifies near end of life of the CRT (tube).

There are a few tricks/tweaks that can be done but of course these are just prolonging the inevitable. Additionally, this would require experience (not only familiarity) working with high voltage circuitries. Should you want to give any of them a try, they are:
  • Adjust the Screen controller at the rear of the Flyback Transformer (FBT) to maximum effective brightness. It may also be needed to adjust the Focus control;
  • In some versions, there are sub-bright and/or Automatic Brightness Limiter (ABL) trimpots soldered direct to the PCB that can be adjusted;
  • the heater voltage can be slightly increased either by using a stepdown transformer that has multiple taps about 1~2 amps. In some instances, the heater has an external loop around the core of the FBT, adding a turn or so would also serve the same;
  • adding a 100uF/160V capacitor after the diode of the FBT's output that supplies the B+~70VDC of the 3 color drive transistors.
Again, all of the above require experience and knowledge of electronic components and circuitry, use of a soldering iron and working around high voltages. If you are not comfortable going through this route, perhaps your best bet would be to seek the services of a qualified professional.

If your concern has not been corrected after completion of the above procedures, you may need to replace the monitor.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information. Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FIXYA.

Hard to see some words on sites when using my new monitor

Hello!

Please install the driver of your monitor, the CD is enclosed in the monitor from the vendor. If no CD you find the drivers at the Philips website in their support and downloads. After installing adjust the brightness and contrast of your monitor.

Install also the driver of you computer specifically on the motherboard drivers, please install that in series from Chipset upto the last. The CD/DVD is also enclosed to your system.

If not solve then maybe you can claim warranty of your monitor.

best regards, melnavz
