Question about Televison & Video

1 Answer

I have a Sony KDP65WS550 and it will not power up. Initially it would blink five time fast after an unsucessful power up. Now it is blinking 10 times fast. I have read a few things on-line about IC8002 in the "D" board may be defective but was hoping you could help confirm.

What is the typical or recommended repair for the D board? I am an eletrical engineer specializing in electronics and would like to attempt a repair before paying a repair man. Please help with a little more direction on repairing the 10 blinking lights issue. Thanks.

How do I get the TV to remain powered so that I can verify the correct IC and nodal voltages per the schematics? Is there an easy way to get it into "service" mode?

  • jwatrous_99 Dec 31, 2010

Yeah, I had trouble with this. The wires are not long enough to get the tray to slide out for service. I cannot get the high voltage lines to provide enough slack. Any thoughts? Even if/when i get this to work, how to I get the TV to remain on? When I apply power it starts momentarily and then shuts back down.

Replaced IC8002 and IC8005 in the D board and this fixed the problem. Please keep this fix for future reference to save your customers time. Based on internet chatter this is a common failure mode for Sony TVs. IC8002 is a MCZ3001DA for reference. This part supplies high voltage (drivier IC) to the rest of the TV and is apparently a common part to fail. A little more of this type of detail from FixYa would be helpful. Thanks, Jesse

I replaced IC8002 (MCZ3001DA) and IC8005 (TL1431CZ) on the "D" board and this resolved the problem. It would be more helpful if you gave a little more technical detail in your responses. Unfortunately you did not give me anything that I did not already find on the web and through my own research. The MCZ3001DA appears to be a very common part to fail in the Sony designs. This part is discussed on several different web sites. Please keep this information for your records so that you can better support your customers. Unfortunately the $16 given to FixYa was a waste. Thanks, Jesse

Hi,
5 times red standby blinking error doe details are as follows:
a- White Balance Failure
b- Video out IC9101, IC9201, IC9301 could be faulty on CR, CG, CB boards
c- CRT drive IC0401 is faulty on MA board
d- G2 (screen volt) is improperly adjusted
e- any Picture Tube is defective

10 times red light blinking error code details are as follows:
1- Q8014 or Q8013 are shorted out on D board, replace them along with R8051
2- IC8005 is damaged on D board

If tv screen was turned high blight with either red, green or blue color and tv shut down with 5 blinking light that indicates bad picture tube of related color.

Current problem is 10 times blink so have to repair/ replace D board, then will check 5 times error problem.
Hope these info will help you.
Thanks.

I would recommend to get service manual of KDP-65WS550 that has all schematics, part list etc
D board repairing is not so difficult for handy person and being an Electronics Engineer, it would be easy for you.
You can download service manual copy (free) from This Site and required parts are available in partstore.com
    Thanks.

Connecting wires inside tv are long enough, slide out complete chassis an turn it upward as shown in below image for service position to take voltage readings on specific parts/ chips.
All these info are available in service manual.
    Thanks.

Need to check and replace defective parts mentioned above to turn On tv, since tv has problem so it wont turn On.
Regarding HV wires, remove fixing screws of HV Block to get it down to extends these wires but make sure that ground wire of HV Block is connected securely.

Excuse me, you dais I did not provide you any helpful info?
Your tv was not in front of me so all I could give you what I have in hand. If you were expecting me to pinpoint defective part then I can do if I was physically there, I'm really upset about such comments that I did not gave you helpful info.
    Thanks

I have a 42" sony wega (KF 42WE610) The picture and sound turn off and on by itself with only a few minutes of viewing. There is a five blink code when the power turns off. Any ideas?

The thought is that it could be a power supply issue! In the back pages of your operations manual is a short troubleshooting guide. I looked on page 98 and didn't find anything for your power light, flashing/blinking five times means. If you can find a service manual on line it may tell you more of what the five blinks mean! Sorry!

MY SONY TV MODEL # KF42-WE610 IS SOUND IS COMING ON BUT NO PICTURE

If you turn it on and the, Power/Standby green light blinks slow 6 times; then it becomes a red fast blink 6 times, pause, then continues to blink red fast 6 times, again and again. this means when it's blinking 6 times is indication of electrical circuitry malfunction. The Television will need service.

Sony model ke-37sx910 power light blinks five times and has sound but no pic

These blinks [flashes] are fault indication (Error Codes). From the number of blinks occur at one time switch ON, you can get an idea about the faulty circuit section inside it. This will make repair easy. These are called blinking codes. Make sure about the exact number of blinking of the standby/power LED, by switching On & OFF the set, for at least two times. Count it carefully. If you wish to get some details, check the site linked here. It has details about blinking codes, and fault locating procedure, to many popular brand TVs and other devices. Viewing it in "Mosaic" or "Magazine" will make surf easy.

  • Five blinks - AKB circuit (automatic kine bias), the timer/standby indicator blinks for about 30 seconds then goes to the self-diagnosis function. Something is wrong with the video. Check video out, Q705, 732, 761 and other components on the C board, also check Q218, 219, 220 on the A board. In addition, unit could be in IK blanking, try turning up screen A2 slightly.

When turning power on, nothing happens and then it blinks red five times in a row. KDS R50XBR1

The five blinks indicates a lamp driver failure. The lamp driver is commonly called a ballast. Odd thing is that these set rarely have ballast failure. But the microprocessor in your set thinks the ballast is defective and is rendering the five blink code.
