Hello,

Your self propell is not adjustable. The belt runs over a spring tensioner, you either need a new belt or axle bushings. If you pull the top cover off, you can watch the belt when you engage it. With the engine off, can you move the front wheels up or down or forward or backward? If so the plastic bushings are worn out and this changes the geometry of the drive system, making the belt appear too long.

Hope this was helpfull, Matt

I have a self propelled lawn mower and the the belt that propells the wheels is loose, do I need to replace it or is there a way to tighten the tension.

Cathy, there is a way to adjust belt tension on some models whether it is by the cable or a slotted bracket where the idler wheel is mounted, depends on make and model. If you have your manual check in it for belt adjustment. Could be stretched belt, stretched cable, worn/oil on pulley, seized tensioner, stretched/broken spring on tensioner, etc.

Why won't my 22 in. Kohler Low Wheel Variable Speed Self-Propelled Gas Lawn Mower self propel anymore?

i would guess that the belt is'nt tight enough when engaged. when you press the drive bar on the handle it should make the belt really tight if not it will need replaced. sometimes the gears in the wheels will mess up. there are videos on you tube that describe that and also the belt.

This sounds like a simple belt adjustment. Look in the area where the belt is . Look to see if there is an adjusting screw, or a movable pulley, or just something that will tighten the belt. Lift the mower and look underneath the mower deck. This may be where the adjustment may be. If you can't find the area of adjustment, then you may have to bring in to the repair guy. Either way it's cheaper than a new mower. GOOD LUCK>

Self propel barely moving... any adjustment?

Generally other than very slight cable slack cancelling a new belt is your best bet for a slowing driveline.

Rerunning the belt on an o6 self-propelled Lawnboy

You may have to loosen the adjustment a bit to let the transmission tilt farther forward. Do not loosen the other nut on the adjustment, that way you will know how far to re-tighten the one you loosened when you have the belt on.

Install self propelled belt

Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. Usually the self propelled vacuum have 2 belts and you should replace them both 2 the same time 1st the self propelled belt and then the brushroll belt. Normally you would hook the belt on the pulley side of the brushroll or self propelled unit and then stretch the belt onto the motor pulley side of the motor using a belt puller or a screwdriver with a bend on the end for pulling and or stretching either belt onto the motor pulley. If you have a problem please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer.

So if you need further assistance, please feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer in your area or in the yellow pages, or contact the factory phone number or website to further assist you with your questions.
Thanks, Don the Vac Man

Brush won't turn and self propel doesn't work (by 2 users)

I have replaced both the v-belt and the larger belt with Hoover brand belts and the brushes still don't turn properly and the self-propel function doesn't work. It seems that when I lower the handle all the way down toward the floor it works fine, but no one can vacuum this way. Is there an adjustment to belts to tighten them up? Otherwise I have to get it in to the only repair shop in town which is an hour's drive.X

1 Other User Has the Same Problem Comment by chartsell, posted on May 29, 2008 I have replaced both the belts as well. I have tightened the screws as someone else as suggested. The brush still will not turn unless you lower the handle almost to the ground. Hello,
I would advise you to ALWAYS to FIRST UNPLUG YOUR VACUUM before beginning any service procedure. Hoover U6437-900 / U6439-900 Windtunnel Vacuum. It is not so much the belts, the 2 belts are only part of the solution. The average belt change is every 4 to 6 months as a rule and to change them @ the same time. The Hoover Self-Propelled works on when the handle is lower to a comfortable position then the self-propelled drive may just need and adjustment. There is a self-propelled rod that controls the self-propelled feature and it either needs adjustment or replacement or the part that hold it may be broken but either one can be fixed. So feel free to contact your local vacuum cleaner dealer with questions.
