Question about Sharp VL-E785U 8mm Analog Camcorder
The chances are that a switchcontact or motor is not engaging, and the unit will have to be opened up to be fixed.
Oftentimes, with these older units, switch or relay contacts become oxidized over time, and fail. It sounds crazy, but one fix (without having to open the camcorder) is to give it a bump with the palm of a hand. I used to do withis with my old Olympus, and that's the only way I could get it to work, without spending a few hours taking it apart.
You can always go by a tv or camera repair shop and see what they think. Get an estimate before having it repaired, since it might be better just to upgrade.
