Can't figure out how to "slide battery door" off the brookstone scanner. anyone got a picture of where the "slide" action occurs ? Obviously I have identified the "door" but can't "slide" it in any direction. Seems so elementary, but I can't do it .

Hi,
you can just open the slide and remove the battery door and insert the battery.

Replace the battery door and slide closed.

When green led light turn off press and hold the power scan button to turn the scanner off.

for picture visit the Brookston website.

Help! We opened the box for our new Brookstone Slide and Negative Scanner Model # SKU634402 and the installation CD was missing. Is there online installation available or should we just return the item...

A search for that model on Brookstone's website takes me to the iConvert Instant Slide and Negative Scanner. That scanner does not require an installation CD. It works by scanning slides or negatives and then saving them to an SD card. Many digital cameras use SD cards so you may have one already. Otherwise an SD card will need to be purchased separately.

When I scan a photo, my Brookstone IConvert photo scanner has white lines all over the pictures.

The reason it has white lines is because the glass is dirty in the inside. If it has one speck of anything inside the scanner it turns into a line because it stays in that one place as the picture slides over it. So that line is actually a dot that is covering the picture throughout the scan. The solutions don't work. I don't suggest taking yours apart. I took mine apart and cleaned the glass. The pictures scanned fine and then the lines show up again. The real solution is to get your money back if you can. It will do this over and over. It's a design flaw in the scanner. The picture is actually squeezed as it it scanned. As pictures are squeezed against the glass... residue builds no matter how clean your pictures are.
