Tach, speedometer and the fuel gauge does not work

there are 2 fuses for the cluster
did you check them first?
the cluster has a self test.
run that yet
http://www.morris4x4center.com/knowledge-base/index.htm?utm_source=cj#service
see 1996 here.
instrument chapter.
see self test. bingo.
then see wiring page. (posted over 200 times here)
scan the pcm for network bus error to cluster? yet?

8w-40-1 (wiring chapter)

pdc fuse 16 and jb 9

fuses good.
if the self test passes? (it will i bet with fuses ok)
that means the PCM can;t talk to the cluster on the
CCD bus network
and will have scan errors. so scan it
why wait?

all meters run off of live data transmitted to cluster
same as your screen you are looking a now. (PC)
some lamps are hard wired, like ABS. etc.
but above is gauge answers.

ive told this story now many times.. here.

check the bios whether the HDD is dectected (you can the get the bios by tapping F1 in XP and F10-in Vista and windows 7) if the hdd is dectected perform a smart short test (click on ur harddrive-smart support-smart short test )-----If the harddrive passes the test

-then try hitting ESC while boot up select the hdd to boot check if that works

if that doesnt work then you need to run the the operating system disc

You could run it again, you probably have some bad sectors. The drive might be fine for years or it could die, very hard to tell. Hard drive failure is the number one problems on PC's next to spy-ware and virus's

What I would recommend either way, is back up important files and folder.

it sounds like the easiest solution would to either run the repair sequence from a windows xp disk (may not be a perminant fix) if that doesent work just use the xp disk to format the drive and install a new operating system

Confused laptop

Hi,

This can be hard drive problem as well as a system board failure issue.

However try the following to fix..

Go to bios by tapping F10 key while the system starts. go to the diagnostics tab and select hdd self test and press enter. this will inintiate the hdd test. if it gives an error code then the hdd has gone bad. if it shuts down then the motherboard needs a replacement.

However if it passes.. then keep tapping the F11 key while the system powers on.. it will take you to the recovery console. select advance options > system recovery and click next. complete the recovery process. the issue should get resolved.

Note : if you are unable to go to bios or the recovery manager then disconnect the ac adapter and the battery and hold down the power button for 2 Min's. This will drain the static. try again.

Hope this helps,
Regards,
Anup

2000 Saturn SL2 fails smog due to failure of OBD Self test

Some vehicles require very specific drive cycles (called "drive traces" if you perform them on a road simulator or dyno) to activate certain self-checks like the catalyst and EVAP monitors. As a general rule, doing some stop-and-go driving around town at speeds up to about 30 mph followed by five to seven minutes of steady 55 mph highway speed driving will usually set most or all of the monitors. Consequently, if you're checking an OBD II system and discover that one or more of the monitors have not run, it may be necessary to test drive the vehicle to set the remaining monitors.

You should talk to a good emission tec, if this is not throwing a code, it is hard to say if that one of the components could be bad. O2,pump,convert, HeO2, every part of the emission system.

With a 1000 miles, and doing what is says above just before the test, and ending driving at the test
should be plenty. If it is not, you will have to have each emission part checked, or when the computer
is plugged in it might show a code that did not trip dash light.

Laptop help

yes, may be the hard drive... so goahead and run a test on hard drive....

try going to bios setup.... from the main menu in bios... highlight the hard drive... maybe displayed in first drive, or second drive...push Enter... and from the list select an option smart self test...
There would be two test's one is smart self test and smart extented self test... first select the smart self test... it would go up to 5 min... if it is pass go to second test...ie., smart extended test...it would go upto an hour.

If first test fails... no need to run the second...directly replace the hdd... but if pass go to second.. and check the hard drive..

As you said you are using UBUNTU.... try install it again.. if hdd both test pass..

MSI P6NGM won't BOOT

You should only hear 1 beep. That 1 beep is power on self test, known as P.O.S.T.
That loud flat line sound (And I'm pretty sure about this), was you're CPU. Just because you ran & passed the stressed test is nothing compared to running the system under load? That's why when you put in you other memory nothing changed. If you hadn’t mentioned you clocked up the FSB I would have come to the same conclusion hearing the loud flat line statement.
Can you test the CPU in another board? That is about the only way to be sure it's not the CPU. Memory does not make that kind of sound. Memory makes short & long beeps.
You can try clearing the cmos/bios by going to pg. 2-18 in you're user manual. This will reset the bios back to default settings & cross you're fingers!

If I can be of more service, just post back & let me know how thing go.

Good Luck!

Mike
