Question about LG 42PX5D 42 in. Plasma HDTV

2 Answers

42 inch LG tv shuts off. Picture and sound go away but power stays on. Turn it off and pic and sound will come back for about 2 minutes then go away again. Just keeps doing this. Seems like the longer I leave it off, the longer it will stay on the next time. Unit is just over 3 years old. Just started doing this today. LG 42LB5D

service technician says its the 'main board', part # EBU35308103. What are the steps required by me to replace this board.

  • beersponge Jan 06, 2011

The first response I got was way off the mark. Had a service tech come out to look at it and he said it needs a new 'main board' which is the one that has all of the exterior connectors on it, right smack-dad in the center of the set. How easy/difficult is this board to replace?

Hi,
LG 42LB5D is lcd tv and in my opinion power supply board is responsible for that problem and I would replace power board first to solve tv issue.
Power supply board is available with shopjimmy.com for $90
and if you want main board as per tech advise, it is available with discount-merchant.com for $70
Click on above links to view boards images and price info for online order.
Let me know if you have additional question.
Thanks.

Board replacement is easy in lcd tv, need to take off back cover by removing screws at rear of tv then unplug connectors on circuit board, remove fixing screws and take off old circuit board. Put new board, tight screws, plug connectors and put back cover on tv and tight screws, job is done.

Hello,

The Y-Sustain is a relatively large board out of which go connections to the side of the display; it's therefore closer to either the left or the right side of the display, has at least one rather large heat sink on it and fat power cables connecting it to the main power supply.

Often there are fuses on that board - one or more. Check those.

if they are blown you can try to replace them, but expect them to blow again - usually the whole board needs to be replaced.

Hope this will in solving the problem,,,,,

TV will shut off after 2-5 minutes

It is probable that there is power supply trouble. Visual examination of capacitors does not reveal internal electrical failure.

I would ask if you have sound, but first it set comes on and no pic, use flashlight 2 in away from screen when on and see i you get picture, if so then your inverter board is out, if no led or lights when turn on then it's your power supply bad, you can use places like shopjimmy.com, discount-merchant.com, vancebaldwin.com

42 inch LG Plasma TV - Lost picture

This is almost certainly the device that sends electricity to the the plasma in the panel after failing. Bring to your local repair shop and expect to pay 300-400 parts and 100-200 labour.

I would call LG and have them assist you with a repair. The most helpful number is 877-543-8325. It doesn't matter if you are in or out of warranty.
