Question about HP Officejet Pro 8500 Wireless All-In-One InkJet Printer

I am unable to print on my HP Officejet Pro 8500. i have recently replaced the 940 black cartridge and since then have been unable to print. i notice there are print cartridges in the main body as well as at the front. the ones in the main body have never been installed and until replacing the front 940 black cartridge i have been able to print without problem. since replacing the 940 black cartridge the orange exclamation mark has been flashing saying unable to print due to not enough ink, when it is brand new. now i cannot do anything, copy, print etc. how do i fix this please?

You can check the ink level from following steps Method one: Check the ink levels from the idle screen on the color graphics display Look for four icons at the bottom of the color graphics display. The icons represent the ink level remaining in each of the four color ink cartridges: black, yellow, light cyan (blue), and light magenta (pink). A larger and more accurate view of the ink levels can be displayed from the Setup menu. If an ink cartridge containing non-HP ink is being used, a question mark displays instead of the ink drop in the icon for that cartridge. The HP All-in-One cannot detect the amount of ink remaining in ink cartridges that contain non-HP ink. Printer service or repairs required as a result of printer failure or damage attributable to the use of non-HP ink will not be covered under warranty. If a hollow ink drop icon displays, the ink cartridge represented by that color icon has very little ink remaining and will need to be changed soon. You might be able to continue printing for a short period of time with ink remaining in the print head assembly. Replace the ink cartridge when the Replace Soon warning message displays on the color graphics display.     • Open HP Solution Center, click the Settings menu, then point to Print Settings , then click Printer Toolbox .
    • Right-click the HP Digital Imaging Monitor in the tray, then point to your printer model name, and click Display Printer Toolbox .
    The Toolbox opens.
  2. Click the Estimated Ink Level tab. The estimated ink level gauges display.
Method three: Check ink levels from the Setup menu
  1. Press Setup on the printer control panel.
  2. Scroll down and select Display Ink Gauge . The Ink Gauge status from the Tools menu will only display on the color graphics display.

If the ink level is low and the cartridge is new please contact the dealer from whom you got the cartridge and if it shows that the ink level is good enough please comment so that i can give you another step to perform

Refilled 940 Cartridege At Costco

The HP 940 style cartridges have an inherent design issue that they collect air inside the black rubber pump. When enough air gets inside the black rubber cartridge pump they get soft/spongy - they must be firm (try pressing on it). The printer presses on the cartridge pump with a foot (gray plastic pad back inside the cartridge compartment) when it wants more ink to the printhead. If it presses and doesn\'t feel enough electrical resistance it thinks the cartridge is empty and errors "empty".

When a cartridge is truly empty, the black rubber pump will **** up inside itself, thus the foot does not feel any resistance. The only way to fix this is by occasionally remove the excess air from the cartridge pump. We recommend the AdaptiveInk Cartridge and Printhead Re-priming Kit. Yes, the Printheads also have an inherent design issue where they collect the air that is pushed from the cartridges. Excess air inside the printhead is what causes the majority of print quality issues you have when printing and this kit resolves this issue very well.

I have a hp officejet pro 8500a and it has started leaving a black line on all copies when the original is fed thru the ADF. What is causing this??


Hi, Change first black color print head cartridge just open cover then replace black print head cartridge.close cover wait for ink cartridge reinitialize if ready print test again.if same print having black line all copy needs to replace also black ink cartridge.

I can not locate the HP 940 cartridge o the printer in order to replace it. Can you tell me where to look for the print cartridge?

As you look at the front of your printer to the left of the paper tray you will find the black facia is a drop down lid drops towards you revealing four cartridges.

Withdraw the cartridge in question note which way up and pull out at the same angle it is inserted.

Renewing, place the right way up and remembering angle gently insert new cartridge with a firm hand and you will feel a slight click as it locates.

After thought, please remember when ordering replacement to mention/make sure it is the wireless replacement, the 8500 (Non Wireless Printer) cartridge is not compatible.

I have an HP Officejet Pro 8500 all in one printer. My magenta doesn't print. I can't print anything with red/pink in it. Can you help?


Try another cartridge first, making sure it is located properly in its seating and is the right spec.

You may not know, 8500 non wireless cartrigdes do not work in wireless A909.

Are you talking about replacing the cartridge at the left side front cartridge compartment or the printer heads under the scanner lid?

How can I make your 8500 pro accept a refilled HP cartrige.


The HP 940 cartridge is the new version of the HP 88 cartridge. Both have a chip that estimates ink levels. Once the chip says the cartridge is empty it will refuse to print, no matter how much ink is really left in the cartridge. This is a safety measure so you don't get air in your ink lines. If you get air in an ink line, that color will no longer print. We can refill the HP 88 because there are replacement chips available for these cartridges. I own a Cartridge World ink refilling store and I don't refill the HP 940s yet because I don't have access to a replacement chip. If you purchased a refilled HP 940 and it's not working, I would say the chip has not been replaced. I would wait until a reputable refiller (i.e.-Cartridge World, Office Depot, etc..) offers refills for this cartridge before you try anything off the internet.

How to refill the cartridge


This printer takes the HP 940 cartridge. I own a Cartridge World ink refilling store and we cannot refill these cartridges yet. There is a chip on the cartridge that estimates the ink levels and shuts off the cartridge when it thinks it is empty. Any refills you find are either violating patent law with replacement chips or they are telling you to take the chip off your old cartridge and put it on the new one. This second scenario is a rip off because once the chip says the cartridge is empty, no matter how much ink is left, it will refuse to print.

Changing a printer cartridge is not complex but improper handling of the parts may damage the printer and the cartridge. If the user notices that while printing the ink comes out dry or faded, it may be time to change the ink or the toner. The user will know if it is time to change the toner because instead of a sharp image, one will get a faded image. It is time to change the ink cartridge when the printing comes out spotty or colors are used to replace others —for instance, blue for black or yellow for red. Remember, faded images signal the need to change the toner; spotty printing signals the need to change the ink cartridge get more help for change cartridge .
