My gateway ml6732 laptop will not power up...no lights come on when plugged into the power. Could there be a problem with the on/off switch?

Check if the power supply (AC ADAPTER) outputs power (you can verify with a ordinary multimeter)
if you have the correct power rating, than it could be the connector in the laptop, then it could be the power button as you mention, ther is the battery (it could be shorted) take out the battery pack and try to power it up.

If nothing of the above worked, your out of luck sorry!

You may want to have the DC jack checked? or possibly the mother board or power supply. Have had this problem.

Unlikely as even with the power switch off the power led would show current from the AC adaptor was reaching the laptop. Try testing the AC adaptor first by plugging a volt meter into the DC jack, with one probe set to the inside of the jack and the other to the outside, set at 20 volts and see if you get a reading.

If the power is reaching the DC jack, then check the connection at the jack port for tightness and make sure the jack is a good fit

Try removing the battrey and using it on AC power alone, sometimes a failing battery will cause problems

If this fails, it is possible that the internal fuse on the motherboard has gone

Gateway ML6732 Laptop Fan warning

I would replace the fan right of the bat, it has a high failure rate, also remove the heatsink to check the thermal grease is not hard, if it is, remove with rubbing alcohol and paper towel along with the processor, then apply fresh compound to both and assemble.

Gateway ml6732 laptop keyboard

Some keyboards have connectors but most have electrical strip.
These slide into a connector on the motherboard, you can't miss it, it is the same width as the electrical strip, but you need to lift a plastic strip retainer to insert the electrical strip and then press the plastic strip back to lock the electrical strip in place.

Gateway ML6732 Crashed ...NEED help

Seems you have OS (first guess) problem so if you have recovery disk then insert it in DVD/CD driver and reboot your laptop.
And follow the instructions appeared on sreen and when you reach installation mode choose repair one if you wanna repair OS otherwise choose fresh Installation.
once you are done you should be good to go and if you have Hardware problems then your system will show the bugs on screen during installation period.
oh! if you have any external drives (Thumb drive, Ipod) plugged in then remove before you start above procedure because due to external drives also it happens if you dont have any plugged in external drives then follow the above procedure.
Thank you and post back if any thing changes.

Screen

1. Check Power ( this includes the power supply )
2. Check Battery
3. Check to see that the DC power jack is not loose or broken.
4. Most notebook/laptops have a function key FN when the FN key is pressed you will be able to press the F keys , one of them will have a little monitor drawing on it.

if you press them both FN+F-Key ..... which could be F5 in this case , it will cause the computer to switch to either the VGA output , or the notebook/laptops screen. sometimes they get pressed by mistake and the person thinks they have a broken machine when in reality they do not.
