The set will need to be properly diagnosed to narrow down the problem. You could be looking at a bad inverter, bad CCFL lamp, fault in power supply or main board.

How long do I have after the lamp replacement warning comes up before I have to replace the lamp?

You can use the Lamp even if the TV displays the message to replace the lamp. However, the performance of the TV, i.e the picture may become dark, entire screen may display in black after some time. If you can view the videos normally even after displaying the message, you may continue using it.
Thanks for understanding.

Toshiba-10 yrs old. screen goes to black with sound.

Hello, :)

There is a how, and a why, but first, let's start with the how. Portable TV's have LCD, (Liquid Crystal Display) Screens. But the Screen is merely a vivid illusion created by the rapidly moving electrons flowing through the crystals themselves causing color contrast ratios to shift so fast, hence creating the image.
And now the why: the TV uses a back illumination to light up behind the screen. That is why the screen goes black. Normally in LCD's, there are CCFL, (Cold Cathod Floruscent Lighting), these are tiny lamps that should be replace easily. google replacement model for your TV, and aslo type model # plus ccfl lamp. :)

Green light is on but screen is black

It's either the backlight lamp or backlight inverter is busted due to a power failure or fluctuation. Here's how to determine which is which:
  1. Grab a flashlight.
  2. Turn on the TV.
  3. Shine the flashlight onto the screen.
  4. If you cannot see any display even a faint one, the backlight inverter is dead, else the backlight lamps are busted.
  5. Replace which ever is the culprit.

I heard a pop and screen wet black. red lamp

Lamp inside TV is broken and requires replacement. Pop sound was its breaking sound.
Lamp replacement procedure is written in user manual, pretty easy.
Please buy Sony original lamp for TV safety and avoid aftermarket/ cheap lamp.
Let me know if you need to download user manual copy.
Thanks.

Black screen- laptop only works with external monitor

The fault could be a faulty CCFL lamp or inverter.
To determine if you have a LCD screen, inverter or video card problem, read this and follow these instructions.
Defective CCFL backlight, it may have the following symptom: Screen flashs on red/pink and off. Picture stays on in red and slowly be come normal. Picture flickering with dim display or appear black. Picture flickering on and off. All these symptoms indicate that the LCD backlight lamp (CCFL Lamp) has reached the end of the life and all you need to do is replacing the CCFL lamp.
Connect an external monitor to your laptop and power the monitor up first then the laptop, if you see the normal Windows images then the video card and laptop is OK and the problem is definitely the backlight. Dim image and/or dark display on the laptop's LCD screen indicates a faulty LCD backlight and it could be the inverter that supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp or it is the CCLF lamp is nearly burnt out or burnt out, most likely this is the case.
The inverter can be replaced easily but the CCLF lamp is more time consuming and requires soldering skills.
