There should be a small reset button on the face plate. The error code means there is a short circuit on the speaker wires... but in my experience, the fault would not clear, presumably because the head unit is faulty (I checked both positive and negative speaker wires for shorts - no issue).

I used to like Kenwood equipment, but a word of advice to anyone thinking of buying one... DON'T!

My Kenwood KDC-U453 cd receiver displays "PROTECT" on connection and nothing works - any solutions appreciated!!!!

Pull the radio out, tape off all wires but yellow, red and black. Twist red/ yellow together and attach to positive 12 volt, attach black wire to negative 12 volts. Turn on radio and see if it comes out of protect mode. If it does, you will have to troubleshoot all of the speaker wires to find a short.

Kenwood cd player keeps flashing "protect" when i turn it on. How do i fix this?

The "Protect" message indicates that the unit has detected a short or surge in the wiring to the unit. Check your ground and make sure that the speaker wires are not the problem. (Any broken wires or speaker wires that touch the case of the CD player could cause the issue.)

If there are no obvious wiring problems, then the unit has an internal short. That should be resolved by sending the unit for service if it is under warranty.

Please add a comment with the model number of the CD player for additional information. I hope this helps.

Changing tuning frequncy from odd to even No. Kenwood KDC-MP228

Most car stereo (stereos in general) won't tune to even numbers. If you're having problems tuning in your station then you're either too far away or you should take a look at your antenna.

Whenever i go over bumps goes into protect mode

it will probably more than likely be a problem with either a speaker being loose or a bare wire someplace in the wiring

"PROTECT" is displayed on the car stereo when turned on

This is really easy to fix. Look on the face plate for a REALLY small hole. Put the tip of a pen in the hole and it should work. This usually means the stereo isn't wired properly so if the PROTECT keeps coming on after you've re-set it, take it to a dealer. To make sure you're everything is in properly. Hope this helps...
