Question about Nikon Coolpix S3000 Digital Camera

Open Question

I spilled a little grape juice on my camera and the lens is stuck a little. It opens up but then it says there's a lens error. Any ideas?

SOURCE: lens error/system error

I have successfully fixed the same error on a Nikon 2100 by dissasembling the camera and removing grit from the gears that drive the lens. However, if the camera has been dropped, I suspect that something has got dented or bent. It may be worth taking the camera apart to see if a gear has got dislodged.

I would warn you to be very careful not to get a shock off the flash capacitor inside the camera though. Also, it took me quite a while to put it all back together. It's not the easiest device to work on, a result of the very compact body (for its time!)

The lens is stuck open, and reads 'lens error' yet nothing seems to help it. It had been working fine, I went to take a photo and it stuck and came up wit the 'lens error' message. It seems to be permanently broken and it's only 4 months old. Help?!

Buy lens cleaner, to wipe off what you can, but in truth the lens should be dis-mantled to clean it properly not to mention the rest of the camera.

Turn the camera on, lens acts like it is going to project, camera turns itself off.

I am not totally sure of the issue, but I have a few ideas.
First you might want to make sure the battery is fully charged. If the battery does not have enough juice then the camera will auto power off.
Second I would say that you should try to clean the outside of the lens. Make sure there are not any small pieces of dust or sand stuck in the cracks.
Hope that helps!

When I turn camera on lens error 111 shows up on screen and goes right off and lens does not come out

Make sure all the moving parts of the lens are free to move. If you dropped the camera or spilled something sticky on the lens part, it may be stuck and the camera cannot turn on.

Try this at you own risk:

1. Try jiggling the lens with your fingers while turning on the camera, helping it to pull out.
2. If there is something sticky keeping the lens from opening, try to use a warm damp cloth to dissolve it.
3. If nothing works, bring it to a repair center. You may also try the solutions provided in this other fixya article.

Hi there,

Make sure you have installed freshly charged batteries on your Kodak Camera. If you already have but problem still goes on, then try to do a little fix.

With your camera turned OFF, hold the camera on your right hand with the lens facing the ground. Then hit the camera's base on your left palm as you push the button to turn on the camera. You might have to do this a few times. What happens is that there could be a grit of sand that got stuck between your lens' barrel and the camera's base, preventing the lens to retract freely. If the above solution does not work, you might want to apply a bit of force by twist-pushing the lens inside with your index finger while trying to turn on the camera. The idea here is to remove that grit out of the camera.

Please let me know how this goes. Thank you for using FixYa.

Spilled Grape Juice

To give it a good cleaning, you will need to remove the keyboard and clean anywhere you can see juice or feel stickiness. You can buy the expensive computer cleaners, but I suggest 50/50 rubbing alcohol and Q-tips. Remove the battery and C-mos battery to make sure there is absolutely no power to the machine what so ever. After cleaning inside, you will want to give it a good 24 hours to dry, ensure that there is no moisture before applying power. If the juice reached the bottom of the machine, you may need to remove the screen, split the cases, and take the motherboard out, in order to clean the bottom side of the board. If you leave juice anywhere on the board it will gum up, and the acids in the juice will corrode and detierate the circuitry on the board causing a motherboard failure. Now the keyboard, in order to thoroughly clean the keyboard, I suggest that you spray a good amount of the rubbing alcohol in the keyboard, shake it or blow it out with air, then take paper towels and daub up the rest. Repeat this two or three times, then let it dry approx 24 hours. Sometimes the keyboard won't recover after a spill and will need replaced. If it works properly, then, after using the keyboard for a while, you will notice if any of the keys are sticking. Take the sticky key or keys off and clean them individually. I know it's alot of work, but it'll teach you not to keep open drinks around your laptop. It did me, I've ruined one machine, two keyboards, and thoroughly cleaned a third very expensive machine of mine to keep it working, but I finally learned to drink from a sippy around my laptops.
