Stalls on boot up - Acer Aspire One PC Notebook

at what point does it stall?

  • rrowles Jan 05, 2011

Ok I held the "alt" through the entire process and it was not any help.
In bios Ialso tried once again to load system defaults. If they in fact did load, it made no difference.
Again, When I watch the files go by on a "safe ' start up- it always hangs on the same file.
I hate being beaten- I am really at a loss here. Over my head, so-to-speak.
    Thanks for your patience.

During the boot process you will see on the screen to press a certain key to enter setup
Press and hold that key during the boot up process to enter BIOS you can load failsafe defaults or load optimized defaults ,press escape then press f10 to save to cmos to restart

hope this helps

Yep. I did all that and still no help. If I start the booting process and watch the files on the screen , it only boots a dozen of so files, and then hangs. And it's always the same file.
Any ideas? And thanks for your suggestions!

during the boot up proces hold the delete button to see if you enter bios
do this if you are willing to start from scratch
turn Off the computer, now as soon as you hit the power button, keep on holding “Alt” key

I do get into bios and did change to default settings bit the same problem persists.
And, what does 'start from scratch' mean?
    Thanks bronk50 for your suggestions.

start from scratch means factory settings you will have to set your computer to your own personal settings

This is looking like there is corruption with the windows install. As this laptop does not have an optical drive, you may now need to perform a fresh install of Windows. This can be done by creating a boot disc on another computer and booting from a USB stick, external USB CDRom.
The steps are a little complex and too much to type out so I include this link to see if it is of any help..
If you can lay your hands on a USB CDrom, the baove may not be necessary, as you might be able to do a restore from the CDrom rather than a fresh installation

My server stalls in the middle of boot up.

The solution depends on exactly where it stalls. IF it stalls while booting the OS, either the OS files are corrupted so better try the recovery console or using the recovery CD.

Try going to setup or safe-mode. The first boot display will say how to get to setup at the bottom of your display. F8 will get you to safe mode. Also please state your operating system. Steve Medley
