Question about Panasonic TH-42PX75U 42 in. Plasma Television

3 Answers

Have a Panasonic TH-42PX75U that I'm working on, had the 10 blink error code pointing out the A-board, took it out and there was a blown section on the board. Replaced it with another and turns on now but the screen is extremely enlarged like its trying to display on a 56" instead of 42" screen. Any ideas on whats wrong?

After seeing the screen was displaying like that the first thing I checked was the aspect ratio and it does the same thing in all modes. It is currently in fullscreen not zoom.

  • William Wurtinger Jan 07, 2011

Like I said to lovejoy, ITS NOT IN ZOOM, cycled through all aspects 35 times, the picture in all modes is being displayed as if the board was designed for a 56" tv instead of a 42". I've checked all the other boards and the rest of them are fine. Tried a reset on all the settings on the tv as well as putting all settings in the service mode to default and there is still no change. The screen being displayed is still much larger than the actual screen.

  • William Wurtinger Jan 07, 2011

Figured paying for an answer would get better results but so far it was a waist of money. The tv is definitely NOT IN ZOOM MODE for the aspect ratio, all settings including the ones in the service mode are at defaults for the tv. The screen being displayed in ALL modes is much larger than the actual size of the screen. Is it possible the A board TNPH0692-1-A that I replaced was for a larger tv instead of a 42"? If so, how can I get it reprogrammed? Or do I have to start swapping chips from board to board?

  • William Wurtinger Jan 12, 2011

The board came from another 42" like the one I'm working on. The the only difference between the boards is the software loads but they are supposed to be compatible. The only thing I can think of is there is a conflict issue between the new board and the logic board.

  • William Wurtinger Jan 25, 2011

No the part number is the same.

  • William Wurtinger Jan 25, 2011

Apparently even though the part numbers are the same the board was used in the 42 inch and the 50 inch models of the panasonic. Seems the one I got for a replacement was from a 50 inch not the 42. They can be reprogrammed but is a pain and have to have special equipment to do so. Even with the software load being different it would work- unless it was from the 50 inch style. Seems they have a different encryption coding for the logic board and what-not. FYI if you need one of these boards make sure you ask what size the tv was it came from.

Hi William.

TH-42PX75U comprises in parts the A board TNPH0692-1-A (here the service manual-see pg.39)

About the query:"Replaced it with another and turns on now but the screen is extremely enlarged like its trying to display on a 56" instead of 42" screen. Any ideas on whats wrong?"

Sure! That is perfectly normal. After replacing the A Board. See service manual at page 26. About the "zoom answers", any kind of Internet user can answer here. The techs, jeeks and passionate DIYers are overnumbered by Internet users.

Bye.

Ginko.

Its definitely a problem with the aspect ratio. Keep pressing the "Aspect" button on your remote till you get a proper image. Thats all :)

Woah! You replaced it with that of the tv of a larger size? There you go. That is un-doubtedly the source of the problem. Info like this should not be kept from experts. Please get me the part number of the original board you had in your system so that I can help you with your problem.

If the part number of the two boards is different, then the boards are different, as simple as that. Are they different?

Hmmm.. Glad you found that you cannot reprogram it. That is the reason I have suggested a replacement board as the shipping charge for the board programmed for your set will be less than the service charge a tech is gonna charge you for re-programming it.
About the "The techs, jeeks and passionate DIYers are overnumbered by Internet users. " thing it is unfortunate that some internet users think they are jeeks(read geeks) just because a they have a service manual in hand and cannot figure out that an oscilloscope is required for computing the waveform !

If you think you ordered the wrong part, you can't reprogram a board that is made for a larger, you would have to get the exact board, if this is the case. Sorry not much help

I have the exact same problem. I've been researching, one solution was replacing the ss board. I took back panel off blew out dust, checked a5- d5 connection, and other connections. This unit has no fans to check. Still searching.

Will not turn on, power light blinks 10 times, pauses and then blinks 10 times.....

There are likely two separate power supplies in your set; one main supply and probably an additional high voltage supply required by the plasma display. The 10 blinks probably are telling you which but only the maker or a tech familiar with this set would know. You might try calling a Panasonic service center in your area and they can surely tell you with the model number and blink count.

Wont come on

Take out the SU board and try to start the unit. If it works, order that board.
If not install back the SU board and do the same with the SD board..
Boards are (rearview) on the left side SU is up and SD is down.
Good luck
