On most towers, the plastic front panel has to be removed from the front. The CD Drive could then slide out from the front.

Removing cd rom

The optical (CD) drive on your Acer laptop connects to the side of the device and is accessed via the underside of the computer.
If you are having problems with the optical drive on your laptop you should address it as soon as possible, and one thing you may need to do is remove it.
The good news is that even if you aren't particularly tech savvy, you'll find that the process of removing and replacing your optical drive is relatively easy.
Turn your Acer off and remove any power cables that may be attached to the side of the unit. Turn your Acer upside down.
Slide the battery out of its compartment on the underside of the computer.

Locate the circular optical drive retaining screw on the underside of your laptop.
It is located just above the square WiFi compartment in the middle of the computer.

Use your Phillips screwdriver to remove the screw and set it aside.
Grip the optical drive by its edge on the side of the computer and gently pull to remove it from the computer.
Slide a new optical drive into the computer, making sure the disk opening is facing out of the laptop.
Replace the optical drive screw.

Replace the CD Drive on an Acer Aspire 5000
The CD drive of the Acer Aspire 5000 is designed like most other laptop optical drives.
The CD drive is on the right-hand side of the computer and is attached with screws from the back of the case.
All you need to complete the task is a screwdriver.
To avoid electric shock or damage to the laptop, always ground your tools by touching them against a metal object like a table leg before using them on the computer.

Turn the Acer Aspire 5000 laptop off.
Unplug the power cord from the electrical outlet. Remove the power cord from the power supply in the side of the laptop.
Flip the laptop over so you are looking at the bottom of the case.
Slide the battery pack off the top of the case.
You'll see the CD drive on the left-hand side of the laptop when you are looking at the bottom of the case.

Unfasten the screws that are holding the CD drive onto the laptop with a screwdriver. Slide the drive out of the case.
Slide the new CD drive into the case and secure it with the screws.
Place the battery pack in the laptop and turn the computer back over so it is sitting on its base. Plug the power cord into the power supply in the side of the laptop.
Plug the other end of the cord into the electrical outlet.

How to reomve a faulty CD/DVD drive from the Acer Aspire 5510 to enable replacement.

Hello
With a number of software manufacturers using DVDs to distribute their software releases, having a Acer Aspire 5510 DVD-ROM Drive is not only convenient but is practically essential to keep up with software releases. Unfortunately, if your laptop doesn't have a DVD drive, installing one isn't quite as simple as it would be if you were installing the drive into a desktop computer. This doesn't mean that installing a laptop DVD drive is difficult, provided you purchase one that is compatible with your laptop. 1. Check to ensure compatibility between your laptop and the Acer Aspire 5510 CD-RW Drive you purchase. The best ways to do this are to purchase your DVD drive directly from your laptop manufacturer, look for compatibility information on the drive's packaging or ask a knowledgeable sales associate. If buying online, make sure to read all of the drive's profile to check for compatibility information. 2. Remove the Acer Aspire 5510 DVD-ROM CD-RW Combo Drive that your laptop currently has. Flip the laptop over, setting it on a sturdy surface with the side that the existing drive is on facing you. Depending on how the laptop is designed, you should find 1-to-3 screws holding the drive in place; these screws may be on the bottom of the laptop or on the side next to the drive. Unscrew the screws and set them aside for later use. 3. Flip the laptop back over. Carefully remove the old drive, pulling gently yet firmly if you encounter resistance/ This will be the drive unplugging from the laptop's drive interface, so a small amount of resistance is not unusual. Once the drive is free of the laptop, set it aside. 4. Slide the new Acer Aspire 5510 Combo Drive into the empty drive port. Make sure that you press it all the way in so that the drive will plug in to the drive interface. Once the drive is in completely, replace the screws to secure the drive. 5. Boot up your laptop. Your operating system will detect new hardware and will load temporary drivers for the DVD drive; insert the driver disc that came with the drive to install the manufacturer's drivers in order to get optimal use out of your new Acer Aspire 5510 DVD-ROM CD-RW Combo Drive.
Hope this helps, if so do rate the solution Good Luck

Aspire Notebook 5735-4774 won't display on external CRT monitor

If the video chip on the Aspire motherboard is OK then the image on the external monitor would be OK. If not then the video/motherboard is faulty.
To gain access to data on the hard disk, remove the hard disk and connect it to an USB hard drive adapter and plug it into a working computer's USB port. The computer will see this as an external hard drive.
Alternately -
You can put the hard drive in an USB hard drive adapter case and use it as an external USB hard drive.

Acer 5100 laptop dvd/cd player is broken, how do I remove it?

Remove the access cover on the bottom of the case that houses the heatsink, wireless card and RAM memory. No components have to be removed to remove the cd drive. Now look at the cd bezel and then back toward where the RAM memory is installed in thier slots. There is a screw marked by a circle with what looks like a wedge taken out. This is the holding screw for the cd player. Once you remove this screw, there is agap next to the screw hole that you can stick the screwdriver in and push the cd player part way out of the case. Once you do that, grip the front of the drive and pull it free of the case. Refer to page 60 of the service manual I have included the link for below. Make sure you have a PDF file reader like Adobe or Fox-It Reader.

How to take apart old, excellent running laptop for maintainence

When you have removed all the screws from the bottom of the laptop, and there may be screws in locations where the main battery, hard disk and CD/DVD drive was installed, Also there may be screws under the keyboard.
You need to remove the LCD screen (ie the hinges). You also may need to remove the plastic panel that houses the LED and push switches to get access to the video cable etc.
You should now be able to separate the case.
The two half of the laptop case are held together with plastic clips. The best way to separate the case is to start near a openning near the CD/DVD drive slot and gently prize the case apart until a clip catch releases and then work around the edges of the case in both directions until all the clips release.

I have found this method works best on various laptops.

Acer aspire can't find the dvd to play cd's

Most likely the drive is dead, they die from time to time, sometimes they can last years and sometimes but less frequently they just go belly up one day and its very typical for the Cmos and computer to recnognize there is a device there, but Windows cannot access it at all. Try purchasing an external USB or Firewire if your PC has a port for it - and you can then access your CD/s that way. Otherwise, you can purchase a new drive and have it installed. Locating the drive replacement may require some research and time depending on the notebook's specific model number. Also check to see if your PC is still under warranty by any chance, that drive would be covered in most cases.

I need help! I'm a computer novice so please excuse my ignorance. I recently bought an Acer Aspire M1100 desktop (Acer Aspire AM1100-B1410A Refurbished AMD Desktop PC - AMD Athlon X2 4000 2 .1GHz, 2GB...

here is what you will need to complete this project:
  • Your new DVD burner with the included screws and cable.
  • A phillips screwdriver.
  • your new harddrive
  • Once you unpack the drive and find a screwdriver, you can finish the prep work by turning off and unplugging the power from your PC.
Installing Your Harddrive Step1 Open up your case after backing up any important files and locating and installing any software that came with the hard drive. Check to make sure that your computer supports SATA or that you have a SATA PCI card installed. Step2Look for the smaller connector on the SATA cable and connect it to the SATA connector located on the motherboard or controller card. If you already have another SATA drive, simply follow its cable to the motherboard or card to see where this one will attach. Step3Grab the larger end of the SATA cable and connect it to the back of the SATA drive itself. You will also need to attach the legacy 4-pin connector or SATA power cable to power your drive. At this point, check to see that both the smaller and larger end of the SATA cable and the power cable are securely connected and proceed. Step4Choose an available drive bay and insert the hard drive into it, mounting it in place with the four screws provided. Make sure to follow the directions that came with your drive and place the screws in the designated holes to secure proper grounding. Step5Ensure that all cables are properly attached and replace the tower or desktop case cover. After doing this, you're all set to reconnect the power cord and turn on your computer. Formatting and Partitioning Step1Boot from your Windows CD. If this is the only hard drive present, you'll be shown a series of instructions and should simply follow along. Step2Select "Control Panel" then "Performance and Maintenance" and finally "Administrative Tools" for an additional hard drive. Then click the "Computer Management option and choose "Disk Management." Simply right-click the drive to partition and format it. Step3Follow the steps displayed. Windows will guide you through the rest of the process. Now for your dvd drive---- 1.Shut down the system, unplug the power cord and remove the side panel or panels from the case. Ensure that the new DVD-ROM drive is set to be "Slave" or "Master," depending on if it is a replacement or an additional drive. 3 2.Locate the empty drive bay for the new DVD-ROM drive, and remove the drive bay covering. 4 Insert the new DVD-ROM drive into the empty bay and secure with screws or other attaching device provided by the manufacturer. 5 3.Connect the open connector on the ribbon cable (red stripe towards power cable) to the new DVD-ROM drive and connect the power supply cable (plastic four connector plug from power supply)to the drive. 6 Replace the side panel or panels, plug in the power cord and turn the system on. Install your dvd software bundle and get to work. These are actually two things you will want to do at once while the computer is open , but i would do them one at a time in case you have problems you will know what to blame. You can leave the cover off while operating the computer so that you can test it after the hard drive instrall and before the dvd install.
