The M35X series is known for a graphics chip that breaks loose from the motherboard. The computer will still charge the battery, but it can't even route graphics ththrought the chip to an external monitor. There are videos on Youtube about how to "reflow" the solder on the chip to get it to work again, but it's a temporary fix. There are also some places that can resolder the chip to the motherboard.
On the whole, unless you really, really need that specific machine to work, you should either get a whole new motherboard for it or get a whole new computer.
Were you able to get the toshiba bios screen? Well, if you're able to get the toshiba splash screen it means that your laptop is okay, Your problem is connected to windows.
if you dont see anything on the screen, the LEDs blink for a few seconds and then go dark, and if the Fan spins up for a second and then also stops, you're probably looking at a motherboard failure. The problem is with the Maxim 1987 power driver chip. You'll have to resolder the chip. This chip is next to the power plug and it takes less than an hour to do the repair.
