Remove the left side cover after trying a fresh spark plug (gapped at 0.020") with no results. This will expose the flywheel and ignition module. Remove the stop switch wire from the module body and retry for spark. If you get spark, check the switch wire and the switch itself for grounding. If still nothing replace the ignition module using a thin business card for a gap gauge. Turn the flywheel magnets under the module poles, insert the card into the pole gaps, loosen the module screws to allow the module to contact the magnets. Tighten the screws and turn the flywheel somewhat to release the card. Turn the flywheel one full turn to make sure the gaps don't close further. Hope this helps!

One cylinder keeps cutting out and in and it is not the spark plug.

is this question about a two cylinder saw ? if so its an oldie but I like em !! seems that two cylinder 2 strokes can develop points issues that fire the coil twice on one cylinder only (sometimes saw will run , with little power) , ck points time, this assumes of course that you've got a single coil with two wires exiting it , dual coil saw? id ck the coil that doesn't fire with a ohm meter

you might have a broken wire to the spark plug. Use a meter to check continuity on the wire.

How do you check the spark on a Husqvarna 240 chainsaw?

Buy yourself a spark tester from the local chainsaw dealer, these will clip to the cylinder to create an earth, the plug cap fits to the end, it will have a large gap to load the ignition unit, if there is a spark when the engine is cranked the unit is ok.

My poulan saw will only run for 30 seconds and then quits. It ran for about 30 minutes before developing this problem. Plug is dry with tan color. Air filter is clean.

Try a few simple things first, clean the air filter, remove and replace the filter inside the fuel tank on the end of the fuel hose, check the fuel hose up to the carb for cracks and leaks, fit a new spark plug.

Gas leaks out of poulan 3400 counter vibe chainsaw handle.

The fuel tank is integral with the plastic housing of the saw. A leak has obviously developed, I would say its time to replace the plastic housing and go from there.
