Question about Ace Hardware InSinkErator Badger 5, 1/2 HP Garbage Disposal

2 Answers

I have a Badger.5 Plus 5/8 hp garbage disposal. The sink is filled with water, yet it is not draining. The blades are spinning, and the unit is running. I used a 1/4 inch Allen wrench on the underside and turned it back and forth several times. This did nothing. What else can I do?

This isn't a problem with the disposal, but a plumbing problem. I'd start with the "P-Trap" as the most likely spot to be clogged. Beyond that you'll need some sort of snake to clear the blockage.

You're complaining that the garbage disposal is working quietly?
Most folks complain the opposite.

Look down opening and see if blade is spinning rapidly.
Check that disposal eats lettuce leaves and carrots.
Otherwise you have good disposal.

Here is an interesting problem. We have a Badger 5 1/2 Hp Garbage disposal hooked up on left side of double sink. The Disposer runs, spins, but will NOT drain.. at all. Left sink with the insinkerator will...

If this connects into a tee between the sinks, usually if the tee is in the middle of sinks, then often there is a divider in the tee to keep water from backing up the other drain. Remove the tee and inspect to be sure it isn't cloggged. Also put a bucket under the outlet. Try running it this way, if you get good flow you know the disposal is working

Why is my badger .5 plus in sink erator leaking

One of your connections is either broken or missing a rubber gasket or a hose clamp. You have a lock ring on the top that basically bolts to the drain of the sink which is part of the disposal, IT has a rubber gasket or two on it, some have plumbers putty on the very top, the hose that goes from the dishwasher, if you have one, has a hose clamp on it, the drain line into the trap is a compression fit, needs to be tight, and it is usually bolted or screwed into the disposal itself with a rubber gasket. Check these out and tighten them up. Hope this helps.

Properly piped, your arrangment should look similar to this picture so that there is a separate trap for the disposal and the other sink basin.

Sounds like the unit is fine but I think you have a plugged drain.Put an empty bucket under the trap and take it apart.Next remove the tailpiece from the disposal and clean it out.If everything is clean and you can't find the clog you will need a drain snake to remove the clog in the drain pipe.Good luck.
