Question about Sirius Stiletto 2 Satellite Radio Receiver

2 Answers

I'm having the exact same problem with my Stiletto 2 freezing up after about 20 minutes to an hour of use (usually goes to dog logo when it tries to do a task like recording). I'll take the battery out and put it back in and sometimes it restarts and sometimes I get an error message. I connect to my PC, go through recovery and then the exact same thing happens. I'm confused on how this could be a fuse. Could it be a faulty hard drive? is there any way to do a real format/sector check, etc.? Has anyone brought their SL2 back from the dead or is my best bet complaining to Sirius and seeing what they'll do for me. I've gone through 3 S50s and now this!

Continuity check your fuses, they're tiny green SMD fuses located near your dock connector. However, it sounds more like a bad internal connection than a fuse. This was a problem that plagued ST1 sirius radios: solder on the chips' pins would crack, and when the unit heated or cooled it would no longer make a connection, thus requiring a reboot. Long story short, most of them can't be fixed without reworking the connections (and that's a lot of effort for something that will break again).

I'd advise you to send the unit back to sirius if you're still under warranty.

Thanks Switch 998. I called Sirius and they said I was out of warranty. Customer care has no more Stilettos. One other sympton I was getting was a flickering of the screen (sort of a ghost image) and then a reset. If I were to sodder the connections, might this make it work again? I really have nothing to lose because the radio is basically not functional and they aren't going to swap it.

Well, if you have nothing to lose go ahead and do this:

If you have a heat gun, set it to 1000 F; if you have a toaster oven set it to broil.

Disassemble your radio, remove the PCB from the front cover and remove the LCD and buttons from the PCB. Be careful of the ribbon cables connecting them to the board, and place them back into the faceplate.

Fip the PCB to the back side (where the EMI shield should be) pry the metal shield away from the metal frame and set it aside. Cover up any plastic parts on the radio, especially the flat cable clip connector.

Place the board in your oven, or go over it with the heatgun for about a minute (you will see the solder turn shiny). Let it cool for 10 minutes. If you are using the oven, be careful to not overheat it. Any smoke produced is from flux, and it is normal.

Class action lawsuit every update they do this to about 100,000 s-50s in order for you to purchase new ones very very shady class action seems like the only recourse. I spent 5 hours and 4 diffrent calls with them not cool and when I asked for corporates number they told me I could not get it because nobody has it? What the hell is that way to take care of your legacy customers with lifetime activation.

exact same problem here. the fuse inside is blown, according to sirius tech support. I have a new one "on order" as a warranty replacement. They said it could take up to a month (in canada) i read many bad reviews about this unit... now I agree with them completely. 3 months of light home use before a fuse blows? Pathetic. A month wait for a new one? Unforgivable.

Stiletto2 sometimes has static while playing mp3's from exp. card

I also own a Stiletto 2 and I have noticed this same problem, but only when playing MP3's in my car. What I have found is that if the volume on the Stilletto is too high it creates distortion. The solution is to turn down the volume on the actual Stilletto and just use the volume on the car stereo. Problem solved everytime.

I'm recieving a strong signal on my stiletto 2 but no sound on the radio. The MP3 player works with headphones and so does internet radio.

You need the firmware upgrade from the Sirius website:

Bug Fixes

My stiletto records for about 18 minutes then stops

Daylight savings time change a few months ago messed up the timer recording schedule - you must now fix it. Daylight savings time changes will always mess up this recorder. You must reset your recording schedule.

For more info on fixing, go to:

2 other remote possibilities:

If no signal is present at the time the recording is scheduled to start, the recording will be skipped.

Sirus S50 stuck on dog logo, no other response to on button

I am most certain that you have to return the radio most likely you do have a faulty radio and you have only one or two choices here. Return or take it to a tech...I would use the warrenty and send it back...sounds very faulty...this is common with these radios.
