Question about Maytag MSD2651 HE Side by Side Refrigerator

1 Answer

My refrigerator is 5 1/2 years old and the compressor has died for the SECOND time. Fridge was purchased April 2005. First compressor died April 2008. I would think second compressor would be guaranteed for another 5 years. Please do not tell me to call and pay to have it repaired. This refrigerator has cost me approximately $300 a year to own. Totally unacceptable. This one just may end up in the next bonfire.

Sorry to read about your problem, I hope this helps you out.

you really do not have any recourse, I must admit you are eating up compressors. Most units now a days only carry a 1 year warranty. some of the better unit's carry a 5 year. It all boils down to, who did the first repair and their warranty.
But lets say you have a 5 year warranty. you dont keep getting a 5 year warranty on every compressor you get. you only get 5 years of total service.

I tried to help you. Please help me and Rate/Vote on my response. We take the time to answer your question. take the time to rate us.Thanks and good luck

Thanks for the response. I was hoping I had some recourse, knew I probably didn't, but figured it couldn't hurt to ask.

The knocking noise is coming from inside the compressor unit,it lasts for aboat 5 to 10 seconds, sometimes a full minute.fridge is 5 years old.had this problem for the last year.

Does it do it on start up of the compressor? Sounds like the springs that hold the rotor inside the compressor are getting weak and letting the rotor touch the side of the compressor..... till it comes up to speed and levels out.... There is nothing that you can do except replace the compressor.... I would call the dealer or who ever you purchased it from and check if the compressor is still under Warranty.... If may last a long time but it could lock up tommorow too you never know...... Hope this sheds some light on the problem...

Fridge freezer not cooling

(bad news) Repair man came today and said the compressor has died ;- (

(good news) Westinghouse will replace compressors less than 5 years old with a new one, just ring them with your serial number (inside front door) or supply a receipt and you only have to pay for the labour ;-)

Kenmore fridge, about 8 years old, making noise

The compressor on your fridge is mounted on rubber grametts and inside the dome the internal parts the do the pumping of the refrigerant are mounted on springs. When a compressor gets old some people complain about two much vibrating, this could be the rubber grommets the support the compressor. When one of the support springs inside the compressor is broken it will have a distinct rapping sound when the compressor shuts off. There isn`t anything you can do about this, short of replacing the compressor. It will eventually get worse untill something is seriously broken inside the compressor and the compressor will die. You may want to consider replacing the compressor now or purchase a new fridge. You will need to consider the cost of both and the age of the fridge" Is it worth repairing?". You can actualy find a repair company in your area from this site if you like, and compare the costs.I hope I have helped explained the problem well enough for you. I will help you as much as I can.

Who should I contact--Raleigh, NC

huummm... i'd pull out the invoices to equipment there's always a 5 year warranty on compressor. sometimes contractors says it's out of warranty to sell you a new unit, (they usually hate repairing.) If your invoice says it's less than 5 years old well technically your under warranty. If contractor doesn't want to honor warranty you should contact any local consumer affairs office and file a claim, sometimes if the equipment is less than 5 and more than 2 you might have to pay a small fee to get the replacement compressor. And you might have to pay some fees, at least installation of it. and the only time it needs refrigerant if's there's a leak. I'd on on that line for now hope to be of assistance today.

Refrigerator is not cold but freezer is still operating.

Couple things, both doing with air flow. If the fan in the lower freezer isn't working there will be no cold air moved into the upper fridge. If the defrost cycle happens to be dead then the coils down there will freeze solid and there can be no air flow over them to cool the upper area. You'll have to pull the lower drawer out and take off the interior rear panel to check these things. Hopefully it's just that the fan motor went out. It's real easy to change. Let me know what you find, if the coil is all iced up solid then there's more things you need to look into.
