What is DNS?

Hi
DNS stands for Domain Name System and it the system that translates numeric IP addresses to user-friendly Internet addresses.
By itself it shouldn't interfere with Chrome unless the settings for your Internet connection are not finding an appropriate DNS server to do the translation when you ask to access a website.
Hope this helps,
Cheers

Belkin f9k11009v1, Macintosh unable to connect

First see if you are able to connect to the internet wired to the router,
-If you are able to connect using the wire connection then I suggest to turn off the wireless security settings for the time being and see what happens.

Wireless
See if you are able to ping your router.
Ref: http://www.wikihow.com/Ping-on-Mac-OS
-Make sure that the TCP/IP settings are set to DHCP and make sure that it is getting an IP address and Default Gateway.

If you are able to ping the router then see if you are able to ping google by name and by IP. (An IP address for google, com is 74.125.141.100)

If you are able to ping both then you should be able to access the internet.

If you are able to ping only the google's IP address then you have a DNS issue.
-See if you can set your DNS address manualy to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4. Ref: https://developers.google.com/speed/public-dns/

If you are able to ping only google by name then see if you are able to access google by typing in the replied IP address in the address bar of your web browser on a computer that is working fine.
-If you are not able to access google with the address then you may have something stooping you on your machine. Check for firewalls and antivirus to see if they have any network configurations.

Unable to connect to cable network after downloading network drivers

You need to be sure that your network settings are properly set. If you're behind a router, make sure that your computer is in the same network with it. Ping any website like google.com and see the result by entering this command in command prompt: ping google.com. Here is a picture showing what you should see if everything is ok.
12_18_2011_10_22_52_pm.jpg
If your result is something like "Destination host unreachable" or "request timed out" try this command: ping 173.194.66.103.If you have ping with the second command - you should fix your DNS input in Network settings. Usually for DNS server you should use the IP address of your router. If you have ping in both scenarios - you should check Internet Options of your Browser. Make sure you have entered proxy settings if you're using one. Make this initial diagnostic and write about the results so that I could help you.

My laptop will not connect to our wireless router at work. It says connected, but no internet access.

The laptop might be connected to your wireless router but is unable to connect to the internet

check if you can ping websites
- click on start > Run > type in "cmd" > in the command prompt type in "ping www.yahoo.com"
- if you get 4 replies the problem might be with your browser.
- if Ping fails try typing "ping 209.191.122.70" which is the IP address for www.yahoo.com
- if ping is successful then the issue is with your DNS server. contact your ISP to get alternate DNS
- if Ping fails try pinging the default gateway or modem IP (you can find the default gateway by typing IPCONFIG)
- if ping is successful then there is a problem with your internet provider

Also you should try disabling your firewall and runnning a virus/malware scan

Unable to connect with dlink300 router

You must configure first its settings both on your network card and router. See you manual.

First you must connect your internet directly to the computer then get its DNS settings, jot it down. Then connect the router lanport1 to lan card port of your computer using LAN cable. Under lan properties goto TCP/IP settings input the default IPaddress 192.168.0.1 of the router then its subnet mask commonly 255.255.255.0, the router's default gateway, input the DNS settings of your ISP 2 of the set.

Then goto default router's utility web. Open internet explorer, key in router's ip add 192.168.0.1 you should go to router's configuration log in user = admin, pass = just hit enter. Set your time and date then save. You could also test its connection by pinging the IP address of router. on windows DOS. Type ping 192.168.0.1 you should get 4 lines.

If everything is set. Connect the internet cable(UTP/LAN cable) to its WAN port of the router then test to browse the internet. If not then change the DNS settings with the remaining set (on Lan setting).

If I miss something just leave a comment.

Unable to download system upgrade version 2.60

I was able to connect fine for a month before the 1.50 update and then things got really wierd. I have gone through entire days unable to connect to the network and entire days able to connect. Meanwhile I had full use of the PS3 internet browser and no other computer or internet issues. I can currently confirm that if I return my PS3 internet settings the original "automatic" settings I will not be able to connect, with these DNS settings in the PS3 I have no problems. I have cable internet access through Adelphia with a Linksys WRT54GS router communicating wirelessly with my PS3... GOOD LUCK!
The information I used to create this fix contained a link that has provided us with router specific DNS information to be used if the numbers provided do not work. http://www.opendns.com/start/at_home.php
Now, a day later, I am able to connect with the original automatic settings for everything including DNS. I must also point out that the network performance is much faster using the automatic settings and recommend using alternate DNS settings only when neccessary.

All I can say for those still having problems is reboot EVERYTHING. Your router, modem, PS3 and any other device that may be connected to your network.

If you still have problems try connecting the ps3 directly to your modem not through the router...
