Question about Mitsubishi WS-55809 55" Rear Projection Television

Okay, so here's the problem.  I bought the TV back in 1999 and up until around June I had no problems with it.  Then one night, the video seemed to flicker slightly when I was watching a dvd.  Thought nothing of it, went to bed.  Next day, turned the tv on and here's what everything looked like:

I did some initial research but came up empty handed and only to try a hard reset by unplugging everything, letting it sit and trying again.  I did this and 4 days later (without using it) I plugged everything in and it worked fine.  I didn't use it much over the course of the next few months, but it did this same exact thing twice.  It seems like it'll act like this, then after sitting off it'll go back to normal for a while, then right back to this.

Most recently, I turned it on, everything was fine.  Let it sit with my satelite on for a while, then it randomly went right back to this.  I didn't hear any clicks or pops when it switched back to this messed up mode.

Here's a closeup of the screen:

Some reading makes it seem like the convergence is way off, but I can't adjust it through the TV's screen settings.

Anyone know what's wrong?

Thanks,
JB
Seems convergence is out. Blurred picture.

I have a WS-55809 I bought in 2002. After a couple of years it started to devlope the distorted picture. One minute it was OK and then the next it would go to black and white and distortion. i had the service tech come out and they replaced a circuit board. Everything was fine since then and I primarily watch it via a dish HD receiver and has a excellent picture. I also have coax cable service but when I switch to cable TV the picture is OK for a while and then turns black and white and distorted. I've replaced cables twice. If I tap on the side of the TV it will clear up for an hour or just for a minute or two. Any ideas.

Yep, I got the same problem with my Mitsu. 55" HD... It looks like your looking at the screen through a fish eye lens. Center is clearer but the colors in the corners don't overlay like they should... Some times if I give it a love tap the colors converge again. But it's getting worse every day... Kinda sucks...... Help?

I have to keep the TV on all day because my screen looks like a fish bowl during the first two hours the TV is on.  What needs to happen to fix this problem?

You need to replace both of the convergence ICs. They are both STK392-570 you can get replacement ICs at the following link and they provide free instalation instructions with pictures on how to replace the ICs. Here is the link.

I just replaced my bulb (XL2400) on my rear projection TV. I go to plug the bulb back into the TV and I get the error (red light flashing) that indicates that the bulb or the door is not securely in place. Is there a trick to getting the bulb back into the proper place. I messed around with this for over three hours last night.

TV won't come on.

Few items here, most likely you have a Blown Fuse in the power supply of the TV. 2nd a power strip / surge protector is good to an existent but you will be best protected by a Power conditioner from monster power supply sold in many Best buy stores. 3rd if you can or have a freand that can. Inspect the power supply of the TV for a deformed capacitors main failure to most power supplies in LCD & plasma TV's

Cracked Screen for a Panasonic DMC-TZ4

Not worth replacing screen, due to labor cost so if camera works, it can still be used for snapping up shots if set on automatic and can be connected to monitor source e.g. gps monitor, portable TV,etc to view pics or change settings. Can try selling cheaply online and use money for new camera.

Game Mode

Had the same problem. You have to get a universal remote that matches the tv. Bought it today at Kmart (Walmart has it too). Only set me back $10-11 bucks and most def. worked. Set it to the tv and hit the Input button, GAME mode came right on. Here is what I posted in another forum on here.

I had the same problem until today. I bought the same tv and went to Kmart/Walmart. I bought the RCA Universal remote (RCR412SI). Only set me back $10-11 bucks. Has like 3-4 ways to set the tv, dvd, sat-cable and vcr/aux. Even allows several tvs I believe. Couldn't set it at first, then there was the other method where the remote did the search. Worked! Here is the device, http://www.walmart.com/catalog/detail.gsp?image=http://i.walmartimages.com/i/p/00/07/90/00/33/0007900033211_500X500.jpg&product_id=10740563&iIndex=1&isVariant=false&corpCard=false&type=-9223372036854775808

I hope this helps everyone out. If you have the 6419TC 19" TV, it will work, just make sure you read
the directions and be patient. Will save you money.

GE 31GT660 picture is intensly WHITE

The GE (actually RCA) 31GT660 uses the CTC187 series chassis. This chassis is notorious for bad solder joints on the shields around the tuner and microprocessor. When the solder joints on the shields crack, the microprocessor and EPROM lose their ground and the EPROM's data becomes corrupt. The solder joints on the shields will all have to be resoldered and the EPROM reprogrammed or replaced by a qualified tech familiar with the 187 series chassis.
