Hello,
My name is Dane and I am going to help you solve your problem.
Normally, when an engine backfires through the carburetor, It will be from a valve problem. You should first adjust the valve clearance looking also for any bent valves or pushrods.
The other thing I would check would be your flywheel to make sure it hasn't sheared a flywheel key, and check your coil and gap. This is doubtful, but worth a look if the valves check out ok.
I hope I've helped! Thank you! Dane

Like all mechanical issues this is just a matter of elimination.
There is no mention of the exhaust system in the comment.

Is the motor backfiring despite the exhaust? Is there a corroded suppression baffle increasing back pressure? "... looking back this issue has slowly got worse"

There is a balance in the explosive gases, based on the comment.
So it seems the ignition chamber gases / fuel mix is correct. But there is enough fuel air ratio to post ignite, seems like an exhaust side issue from the comments.

Still there is nothing like feet on the ground ;)

Kawasaki Mule wont crank getting fire but no fuel to carb. How do you tell if its the fuel pump? Its a 2007 ModelKAF620J 3010mule

hi there when you turn the motor on you should hearthe pump start up for a second,or you can take the fuel line off and turn ignition on and see if it pumps out, also the bowl on the base should have a bleed screw on it just undo that and see if fuel comes out.if this is all working then it is the idle jet that is blocked or you needle anseat the needle could be jamed up in the seat this is a carby off job especially if it has been sitting for a while the fuel evaporates and leaves a sticky resin in the carby.bring back leaded fuel lol hope this helps cheers pete

Why dora tus exhaust light up fire red and gas pours out the carburator

check and adjust for a faulty needle and seat unit in the carby that is not controlling the fuel flow. Check the ignition timing as red exhaust indicates too far. The fire in the combustion is still alight when the valve opens allowing the fire (around 300 degrees c) to exit to the exhaust pipe. You may also check valve timing for the same fault

Klx250 wont run it has spark new battery and cleaned carby but wont fire up will occasionaly start and run fine

Remove the filter or filter connection to the back side of the carb and spray it with starter fluid. If it starts when you do that each time, the carbs still have a problem and need to be cleaned out again or adjusted correctly.

hi there

if you had the carby off and cleaned it out , was the fuel flow from tank to fuel pump ( if it has one ) good , and was the output from pump to carb good on cranking?

if so and the breather in cap is venting , it could be that the governor needs adjusting, possibly have got a spring in the incorrect position and there is no binding , pay to check , carby main jet closly for any obstruction. check the fuel level and float hieght .

most times hunt / surge is caused by obstruction to fuel flow , or governor

try holding the governor in a fixed position if hunt / surge still apparent - carby is causing fault
but if not governor setup is causing problem

I have an 89 ZX10 it sat for about 8 months when i fired it up it ran like a pig coughing & spluttering backfiring. I cleaned the carbies put in new plugs checked compressions 170 - 180 on all four....

You still have an obstruction in one or more carb. Start it cold and start feeling for a cold exhaust pipe. (That will be the bad cylinder) Be careful as they get hot very fast.

Back firing out of the right pipe at cruising speed not under load or when letting of the throttle. I changed plugs, wires and wire caps any suggestens. thanks wilson.

Is there an exhaust leak at the cly? can **** in fresh air and backfires, thats the common one. other than that carby out of sync or lean pilot/ low speed jet.
