Question about IBM Lenovo ThinkPad R61i Notebook

2 Answers

Hi, I have a Lenovo R61i 8932 (T5250) laptop. I spilled some coffee on the keyboard... Shortly afterwards it stopped working, and when I try and switch on now all I get are 4 lots of two bleeps, and then nothing. New motherboard is the solution ? Worth getting one ? It did everything I need it for and is well built. Thanks for any comments!

From what you have described a motherboard replacement probably is the only solution. I know that some tech's will try and get them up and running but I think in the case it would be a waste of time. It comes down to a personal choice but I would recommend getting it checked out to see what the final verdict is.

Anytime liquid is spilled on an electronic circuit, unless it's water proofed or the liquid is pure distilled water, it's ruined. Sorry.

I spilled coffee on my lenovo laptop and was able to clean the keys and they all work except the

cleaning if one thing take a hair dryer on low heat and fan and blow it along the keypad for about 3 min then tip the keyboard so it's facing down on table, and let it 'drip dry' for a day or so

Lenovo laptop(8932) will go into a sleep like mode (you can still see the screen, very dim) when plugged into ac adaptor. Doesn't do it with battery power. Changed system board, power adaptor - no...

Good Day Psmith!

It looks like the AC adaptor is not making the right supply voltage needed for your laptop.

If you have a multi tester, you can test your ac adaptor to see if it has stable 20V voltage output supply needed for the laptop to make it work.

Set your tester to DC range. Plug the ac adaptor to your wall socket. Hold the other end of the ac adaptor (the one you connect to your laptop. Insert the red (positive) lead into the center of the adapter pin, then touch the black (negative) lead to the outside metal part of the pin.

Read the display in your tester. If the adapter is working properly, the meter should read between 19 to 20 volts of the rating. If the adapter is faulty, the meter will read below 18volts.

If that would be the case, I'm afraid you will need to replace your ac adaptor.

You can purchase online a replacement ac adaptor for lenovo 8932.

The speakers of my lenovo R61i laptop have stoopped working

Hi,

Welcome to FixYa!

What do you mean it stopped working? No sound at all?

Please try the following:

1. Please make sure the sound is not set to mute. Try to adjust the sound volume.

2. Reinstall the audio driver. You can do this using the drivers disc that came with the computer or you can download the audio driver from the computer manufacturer's website: http://support.lenovo.com.

3. Try to connect an external speakers or headset. If you can hear sound on an external speakers or headset then the internal speakers of your laptop is already defective.

Hope that helps. Thank you for using FixYa!

Error 0210: Stuck Key 01

This is a system board POST/BIOS error code (nothing todo with Windows). The ERROR 210: is a standard POST (Power On Self Test) errormessage that indicates an error with the keyboard. The error condition is thata keyboard scan code was received from the keyboard when none was expected, after the keyboard was reset. If this occurs most of the time when you power on yoursystem, then it indicates that a key is sticking down or the key mechanical orelectrical parts are broken. Sometimes blowing out and cleaning out around thekeys will resolve this problem. Otherwise, you need to replace your keyboardwith a new (or at least a working) one.

The computer screen shrinked

Hi,

If you have Vista, try going to Control Panel and clicking Personalization, then Display Settings, and slide the Resolution bar up a bit.
If you have XP, you can right click on the Desktop, click Properties and change the Resolution in there.

Hope this helps!
