Question about Nikon Speedlight SB-600 TTL Flash

1 Answer

No TTL information for Sb-600

The autofocus light on the cable doesn't come on under any circumstances, and SB-600 acts like a manual flash when attached (as if no TTL information is being transmitted).

BE SURE YOUR CAMERA IS SET TO SINGLE AUTO FOCUS AND NOT CONTINOUS.
ALSO IF THE CAMERA IS A D300 OR D700 MAKE SURE YOU ARE USING CENTER FOCUS FOR THE AF ASSIST LED

Can I use Nikon SB-22s speed light with my Nikon digital SLR D5000? Is that compatible? I bought SB-22s for my previous Nikon film camera. Thank you.

You should be able to use your SB-22 with your D5000, however you can only use it in the manual mode since it is not a TTL speed light. That means you will need to manually set both the camera and the flash unit. I have done that successfully with an SB-25 on both my D800 and D90 in a pinch, but you should consider investing in either an SB-700 or SB-910. They are allot more versatile.

My nikon d90 doesn't works when i put the flash sb-600

Could you provide some details? How does it not work? Does the D90 not turn on? Does it take a picture but the flash doesn't go off? What exposure mode(s) are you using?

Speedlight SB-600 TTL Flash: When I set my SB600 (mounted on D70) to TTL or TTL...

the sync speed for the sb-600 is onlt 1/200 on most cameras i think so if your shutter is faster then that then all you will see is black/ the curtans behind the shutter.

basicly just try again with a slower shutter speed

The flash is not in sync with my nikon d40 anymore. It fires first. Pictures come out dark. The camera itself takes great flash pictures

It sounds like you're trying to use the SB-600 off camera, as a slave flash. While the SB-600 does indeed have slave capability, the D40 does not have the ability to function as a commander. Thus, the SB-600 is being triggered by the D40's pre-flash.

As stated above, the D40 does not function in commander mode. You can mount an SB-800 or SB-900 flash unit, which will function as a commander as well as a flash. Or you can mount an SU-800 commander unit.

Alternatively, you can switch the D40 to manual flash mode so as to eliminiate the preflash. However, you will then have to calculate the proper exposure yourself.

My sb 600 fires with the camera but it seems not illuminate

Definately a settings problem. The camera will only syncronize on one specific speed. Youe best bet is to use auto. For manual, you'll have to set the shutter speed at the sync speed.

Flash Sync Speed
  • up to 1/250 X-Sync Speed
  • up to 1/8000 FP High Speed Sync
  • Red-eye reduction
    Red-eye reduction with slow sync
    Rear-curtain sync
    Slow sync
Front-curtain sync (normal) Flash Sync Modes
  • 1) i-TTL: TTL flash control by 1,005-pixel RGB sensor, built-in flash, SB-800, SB-600, SB-400: i-TTL balanced fill-flash and standard i-TTL flash
    2) AA (Auto Aperture-type) flash: Available with SB-800 used with CPU lens
    3) Non-TTL Auto: Available with Speedlights such as SB-800, 28, 27, and 22S
    4) Range-priority manual flash; available with SB-800 Flash Control

    Sb 600 under exposure.

You probably haven't changed the camera and/or flash back to TTL mode from wireless mode.  Make sure they are both set to TTL, not commander mode and you should be fine.  Note that the LCD on the flash will indicate which mode it is with a little graphic.  On the D70 you had to switch between TTL and Commander mode to set it up to work using the built in flash as the commander, so you just have to switch back.
