Question about Dryers

1 Answer

I have a Kenmore 110.74812200 model gas dryer that will only cycle the burner twice and not let the gas valve open to cycle a third or fourth time to maintain drying temperature. I have cleaned out the lint trap discharge and replaced my bust lint trap catcher along with the thermostat sensor located directly below the lint trap. I have tried to jumper out two surface click on sensor and have had the same fire twice and stop results.

most likely its gonna be your coil kit, but it could also be ur gas valve, but the gas valve is not common. I would go with the silinoid coil kit first, its much cheaper too

Kenmore gas dryer 80series model 110.c72852101

if you hear the valve clicking but no gas the valve is bad.when the burner lights theres a probe that senses that it is lit and sends a microvoltage back to the controller to tell its lit.check to make sure all ground wires are grounded to a clean metal surface.

My Kenmore gas dryer runs but it does not dry.

Obviously make sure the gas supply valve is open and gas is going to the unit.
Then determine if the burner is lighting at all... there is a small plastic plug in the lower left of the front panel. If you remove this plug you can see the burner assembly.
When the drier powers up you should see a glow plug that gets red hot, then a click (the solenoid opening) then the burner should light and you should see a blue flame.
If this does not happen, the glow plug will go out and then in a minute or so, the process will start again with the glow plug and the click.
If this cycle repeats without ANY lighting of the burner, you need to replace the burner assembly and/or safety valve... send the model number and I'll show you the parts.
If the burner lights for a few seconds and then extinguishes, it is probably a faulty flame sensor, which is a probe extending into the path of the burner flame about in the middle of the burner assembly (It makes sure the flame is lit and if it doesn't get hot enough it closes the gas valve to avoid filling your laundry area with gas). You can try cleaning it, and then replacing it. Again if you give me the model # I can help you...

Gas will not stay lit on my Kenmore series 80 dryer..

If the ignitor is working properly (glowing visibly) and the burner will not light, then I would suspect faulty gas valve coils. These electrical coils are right above the gas valves and when energized, these solenoids open the gas valves and permit gas flow to the burner. If faulty the gas valves will not open and the burner cannot light. It is recommended that if any are suspected of being faulty, that both (all) be changed at the same time and they will likely come from the parts supplier as a set. Really sorry for your trouble and I hope this helped. Best wishes.

Kenmore gas dryer mod.110-73942. burner comes on as normal. After 5-10 minutes running Cycles off, igniter ( new) glows but no burner ign. Also replaced the sensor adjacent the igniter.

The gas valve coil is bad. When the ignitor is glowing the gas valve should open and allow gas in to be ignited. Change the gas valve.

Intermittent gas dryer

You are right. Gas valve coils are bad. As they get hot they malfunction as insulation has broken down. I cannot see your repyl due to some tech issue w/ the site, so it may be a day or so before I can reply again. Please leave feedback for me if appropriate. Thanks
