Most likely yes, it's an old one that will have to be replaced.

These tests are called POST or Power On Self Test. When a test fails, the user is notified via POST codes, Light codes, or Beep codes. For diagnosing Beep codes you need to:
  • Power on the laptop or restart it if it is already on.

Computer not giving output to screen

Hi,
Looks like a BiOS chip problem.
The bios on your board is the lifeline when starting your computer.
Pull out the bios chip and clean the contact points.Pull out the mem battery back up and flash the bios memory.Pull out all the hardware board on the PCi socket.
Put back the bios chip and flash jumper back after wards.
Restart......If BiOS shows up on screen you got a chance to revive the MoBo, if not.....Check the capacitors near the processor and look for any bloated caps. and replace it w/ the same value.
If no bloated caps.......... Sorry to say, you have to replace that board and upgrade to a higher type.

Hope that helps!

VGN-N230N can not read SD card when install windows 7. (vista is ok)

Download all the windows 7 updates and install then restart. Windows update are not only updating your windows 7 but also updating your hardware driver. After updating try again your sd card or if still the same can not read try some memory card reader then test it to your laptop. Have a nice day.

After adding 2 g of memory I get a blue screen, have updated the bios

Hello.

Sounds like your memory modules are incompatible or faulty. Remove them and test your system with the old memory. If all OK, then purchase or replace the memory. Memory should be the same type and speed and appropriate for your notebook..

Hope this helps.

if you can see the windows screen on start up and it looks ok and scambled when on desk top you may fine its needing driver updates,

if the screen is the same scramble at start up as in desktop screen then the lcd panel is at fault ,the videocard in from memory on the motherboard

there are chips along the top of the lcd inside the case, some times they fail and do the same scramble result, replace lcd panel and away you go,

try an external monitor yet?Misterdj

Post screen scrambled, seems to be temperature related. I.E. low temperature, scrambled screen-warm temperature normal post screen. desk top pc, GA-MA790GP-UD4H, AM2 Quad CPU,4Gb Ram,GeForce6645 Graphics,...

Looks like an electrical contact problem. Try pulling out and re-inserting all the removable elements, especially the memory modules. When you instert them, make sure to push them firmly into their sockets until the side latches click in place, and wiggle every module gently to make sure it's properly seated in the socket.
If removing and installing back memory and expansion cards doesn't help, it may be a broken track on the board, a problem with some socket itself (processor, memory, cards...) or some other parts on the board, like capacitors, power transistors or such.

Memory slot issue. When I put memory modules into both slots the screen doesn't start up. Tried with just one memory module and it works fine. It seems like only one of the slots have an issue.

OK bud you got 2 slots on this thing.  Lets call them slot A & B.  Install one RAM board in slot A and turn on your computer to see if it works.  Work?  If yes then power down and take the RAM board out of slot A and set the RAM board off to the right.  Now take your other RAM board and insert in slot A again and power up the laptop.  Don't work?  Well then, you got a defective RAM board.  But if this RAM board works also, then your RAM boards are good.  Now try them out individually in slot B.  If they don't work individually in slot B, then you know slot B is fu.k.d up.  Also, check to see if you got the correct #s on the RAM and that you haven't exceeded the laptop's specifications for max ram.

Black screen, then test screen.Did the mobo or vid card fry?

Hi,

if you fried a psu, it was probably caused by a motherboard fault.
You could try removing the geforce card, and try plugging the monitor into the onboard graphics port if it has One. These boards also suffer from bios chip problems, so a replacement bios chip may be another suggestion. failing any of this the motherboard is faulty and should be replaced.

Packard Bell Easynote L4 turns off after Bios

I would try a BIOS update first. Go to the manufacturer website and find the BIOS update for your model. Also, you mentioned replacing the memory. Are you positive it is the correct memory? Were you having the problem before you replaced the memory? If you have the wrong memory in a computer it will give a "beep code" and won't boot up.
