Question about Goodman GMS90703BXA Heater

I replaced the combustion inducer motor the new motor runs slow and does not produce enough pressure could something on the board be bad?

Could be. what is the voltage going to the inducer? You might have a bad ground or a polarity problem. Let me know what voltage you have and we will go from there. Does the main blower motor run fine?

Combustion blower motor runs all the time


I'm assuming what you call a combustion motor is actually the idm(induced draft motor) which is the 1st action in a gas fired furnace, clearing any residual fuel from heat exchanger then forcing the flue gas to the outdoors. This IDM is controlled, normally, by the furnace control board(circuit board). May need a new board.

Usually when the Vent or Inducer motor runs all the time
The pressure switch is usually bad
The furnace board is seeing that the pressure switch is open, so it brings the vent blower on to close the pressure switch but the switch being bad won’t close so the furnace board will keep the inducer motor running continuously.

Model m1mc 090a bw furnace pressure switch open. inducer motor is pulling .45 w.c . the intake pipe above inducer is only pulling .1 w.c. . checked for venting and intake blockages found non. removed...


did you check the hose from the inducer to the pressure switch? HAVE you unplugged the unit from the wall outlet to reset the board? DO you have a voltmeter? If you do you can run voltage across the switch and if you get 24 volts you are open.

I have a Heil H9MPDO75F2AZ QUIET COMFORT FURNACE and have replaced pressure switch and still not running


Hi Kim,
A couple things to check:

1) OK, you've replaced the pressure switch - good stuff. But the neoprene hose running from the pressure switch to the inducer motor... does it have any tears or cracks? Is the hose fittings clogged on the inducer side? Clean/replace as necessary if so. You cannot have any leaks or restrictions in this hose.

2) Try disconnecting the inducer (spent fumes exhaust fan) motor and check this motor coil for continuity with a multimeter. If the motor coil is dead, you'll need to replace the inducer (about $120.00?).

3) Check during initial startup of a heating cycle that there actually is 120vac arriving at the inducer motor coming in from the control board. If not, your board may be at fault.

You're pressure switch is open. The sequence of operation starts with the inducer motor and it pressurizes the combustion chamber, and also closes the pressure switch before the burners will come on or before the ignitor will work. Check for a hole in the vent poly hose, you can remove it from the motor end and blow through it and this will most of the time free up the single contact and it will fire up. You can also by pass the switch with a jumper wire if it is bad or stuck and it will fire, Then you will know what to replace, or what the problem is. Very simple for you to do. Shorted out gas heater power getting to box but heater wount startup.


Jump the R and W terminal on the control board. If it tries to start, bad thermostat or thermostat wire. If not, bad board or something else read on for suggestions.

On a call for heat, the 24 volt thermostat sends a signal to the control module. The control module will indicate a call for heat with a light on the control either blinking or remain solid depending upon model. The inducer (exhaust) blower will purge all gasses from the furnace and pressurize a pressure switch. Once the pressure switch tells the module to continue, the electronic ignition will energize and send 120 volts to the igniter. The igniter will glow and you will be able to see it if viewed thru the small inspection port. Once the igniter gets hot enough, it sends a signal to the module opening up the gas valve (24 volts). Either a pilot will come on or the burner tube will ignite then spread the flame to all burners. Lastly a safety sensor will be looking for a certain temperature within a few seconds and the furnace will continue to operate and the room air blower will turn on in a minute or two.

What could go wrong? The unit will not run if there is no signal from the thermostat (bad thermostat or broken wire), the control module does not sense a signal from the thermostat (bad control), the inducer does not energize (bad motor), the pressure switch does not close (blocked vent piping, bad switch, plugged condensate hose), the igniter does not energize (bad control, bad igniter), the gas valve does not open or there is no gas (bad gas valve, broken wire, no gas), the pilot does not light (dirty pilot), the burner does not light (bad burner, plugged orifice, not enough combustion air), the flame does not spread to each burner (bad flame spreader, dirty flame spreader, more bad burners), the flame safety sensor does not detect flame (dirty or bad flame spreader, bad flame sensor, broken wire, bad control), or the room air blower does not energize (bad fan motor, bad control).

Furnace has new board, and ignitor but still not producing heat what could be the problem


If the furnace is less than 10 years old you will have a diagnostic light that will blink a code. You will need to find the viewing port to see how many times the light blinks and then look at the wiring diagram on the reverse of the front panel for a starting point. If you first remove the panel, it will erase the code so you must look thru the viewing port. Once you get the code read the following:

Janitrol/Goodman GMP075-3 Draft Inducer Fan Won't come on


most forced draft fans are powered by 120 volts . close to the fan is usually a plug that unsnaps. create a call for heat after turning off to clear safetys and see if your getting 120 to fan on initial call for heat. if you are then fan draft motor is bad, usually sold as an entire assembly replace exact as it came out. sequence of operation is..... stat calls for heat via common and white wire to furnace , 24 volts. ......board sences call and sends 120 volts to forced draft ........ motor runs and creates pressure on proofing switch,....... switch closes 24 to board and tells it draft fan is on......... board then energizes ignitor,....... after ignitior glows gas valve is opened and burner lights ........ either ignitor or seperate sensor rod tells board the burner lit........ and a few minutes later the fan comes on and hot air is blown out. if a step is missed or doesn't proof the furnace either trys up to three times to light or locks out. turning off power usually resets safetys and it will resume attempts to lite normally.

A model number may help. Also, are you refering to the inducer fan?

If so, jump out the pressure switch. If it runs, start looking for a blockage in the combustion chamber, blockage in the line to the pressure switch, a bad inducer fan (not getting enough pressure to close switch) or a bad pressure switch.

Goodman furnace I think


Ok, a flashing 3 on a Goodman control board usually means that the pressure switch is tripping. A few things will cause this. One being a restriction in the exhaust or combustion air inlet. The second could indicate a faulty inducer blower motor and the third would be a blocked or bad pressure switch.
 
With the front cover off and door switch taped down, Have a helper turn the thermostat up to 75. You will be watching the circuit board for flashing lights and in a few seconds the inducer motor (the small fan hooked to the exhaust) will start. If this does not happen, we either have a bad circuit board or blower motor. If the fan starts rotating, inspect the hoses going to the small circular pressure switch. Sometimes they may get either water or debris in the hose and not allow the switch to sense pressure. If the hoses look OK, the igniter will glow an orange color and you will see this if you look thru the small viewing port. IF no glow, you could have a bad pressure switch, a bad ignition relay (found on the circuit board) or a bad igniter. OK so if the igniter glows, a few seconds later the gas valve should click open and send gas to the burners. The orange will turn to blue. If this does not happen, you have either a bad gas valve or bad circuit board. Finally if you get flame but it will not stay lit more than a few seconds, you may have a restriction in the burner gas train, a bad gas valve, a dirty or bad flame sensor or not enough gas pressure.
 
Knowing the sequence of operation will give you the needed information to talk with a service technician and cut down on diagnostic costs.
 
Try looking on the back of the furnace access panel for both model number and a diagnostic schematic. This will confirm what the flashing 3 code means for your unit.
