Question about Mitsubishi WD-65735 Television

Hello there, I have the mitsubishi wd-65735 dlp Problem with Mitsubishi WD-65735 Television Hello there, I have the mitsubishi wd-65735 dlp tv.Last night where I live we had numerous power outages last night and thats when the problems started.Anyways when i turn it on the red light comes on after the timer light blinks for 15-20 sec.I get sound but no picture so I moved tv from wall and where the lamp module is there is black on the wall so my lamps are most likely bad. After I took back panel off the lamp light on front of tv blinks yellow now and when i turn it on the fan does nt run in the back.Is this normal since the lamps are you? Wow kinda what I thought, and power goes out here alot.I need to find a backup power source then for future outages.

  • David Heyd Dec 30, 2010

Okay I did like you said.Did not hear the normal arcing sound.Took lamp out and really does nt look bad.Bulb looks normal except at the base of bulb the stem at the base its sorta bulged out and bubbled.Other wise looks fine. The wire from side is intact and glass is clear not white or blackened.

  • David Heyd Dec 31, 2010

Well the bulb actually looks good. The lens is not white or blackened.Just the base stem is a litlle bubbled,or maybe deformed.and the wire from side going to the til is intact

  • David Heyd Jan 01, 2011

Do you mean the menu and input buttons? There is no device button on tv

  • David Heyd Jan 01, 2011

Also do you know where I can find a manual online for this tv? I have one somewhere but I just moved a few months ago and cant find it right now.Somewhere in all them boxes in the garage.I have to figure this out soon cause I ordered a lamp the other day for it and it will ship monday so if its not the lamp I can cancel the order.

  • David Heyd Jan 01, 2011

Okay this thing is just confusing me now.You know when i plug it in to power it turns on by itself and the green timer light blinks for 20 sec maybe then stops.I have done the error code thing 4 times now like you told me to do.twice when i plug it in when the timer light is still blinking and twice when i wait till it stops and i get the same 12 everytime. Also I have waited till the timer light stops blinking and hit the power button. The tv comes on and I have sound but after 20-30 seconds it turns itself off.Its got to be the bulb. What do you think?

  • David Heyd Jan 01, 2011

    so the lamp then?

  • David Heyd Jan 01, 2011

Alrighty.Ill do that when it gets here, might not be till thursday or friday.Ill let you know what happens and thanks for all the help.

If the lamp light blinks yellow, then the first thing I would check would be the filament of the lamp. It is not completely blown into shrads, but it sounds like the filaments is fried. Please check it and let me know.

What about the filament? Its inside the bulb? Can you get me an image please? Also please get me the chassis number of the tv. Its on the label at the back below the model number.

Ok. The lamp looks good to me but lets see. Unplug the tv from the power supply and re-plug it
Pressing the front panel "DEVICE" and "MENU" buttons on the front panel of the tv at the same time, and holding for 5 seconds,
activates the Error Code Mode. The LED blinks an x number of times, followed by a short pause(1/2 second) and another y number of times. You should count these to determine the error code. For example: If it blinks three times followed by a short pause and 4 times then the error code is 34
Get me this info so that I can confirm the source of the problem.

Ok. No proble. Update me once you do it in the morning. :) I wish you a happy and prosperous new year :)

  • eagle338
    eagle338 Jan 01, 2011

12 means no error. Its the defualt error code. You should unplug and re-plug the tv and then try it. Please give it another shot and let me know. Just a confirmation so that we can rule out the DMD module.

    eagle338 Jan 01, 2011

Yes I forgot. Some models have a device button instead of input. so its a mistake. It is the input button.

  • eagle338
    eagle338 Jan 01, 2011

Yes more so coz you have already mentioned that the ballast does not "strike" the lamp on.

  • eagle338
    eagle338 Jan 01, 2011

Yep. All signs point to a faulty lamp. Replace it and the issue will be resolved.

Hi David, If you were watching it prior to the outages each time then your lamp is definitely bad. As you may know, the lamp fan will run after you shut the set off during normal conditions. This cools down the lamp so it is not damaged. If the outages happened when you were watching it, this is very very detrimental to the life expectancy of the lamp and most of the time fatal the first time. The fans will not come on if you have the lamp door off the set. The set has a safety switch activated by the door being attached or off, so you must always have the door screwed back onto the set for the set to operate correctly providing nothing else is wrong. Is it possible with the black on the wall, might be from just the dust on the filter that blows the hot air out and that just accumulated on the wall. at this point I would unplug the set for 10 minutes and put the lamp door on then plug the set in and tun it on, listen for the ballast trying to start the lamp. This sound will be like an arcing sound, this is normal. Bottom line is,I would replace the Lamp.

I just replaced my bulb on my mitsubishi wd-65736 but picture is still dark looking and the bulb stays lit up after we cut the TV off. Could I have hooked the two wires up wrong?

This site lists your service manual for $7.99
https://www.completeservicemanuals.com/mitsubishi/dlp-projection-television/wd-65736-service-manual/prod_1408.html

This site claims to have a free PDF download, but the "free download" link throws you to www.tradebit.com, which sells the service manual (as a downloadable PDF file) for $7.99
http://www.promanuals.com/serviceparts/mitsubishi-wd-60735-wd-65735-wd-73735-wd-65835-wd-73835-wd-60c8-wd-65c8-wd-73c8-wd-65736-wd-73736-service-manual/

This site sells your TV service manual for $5 as a .PDF sent to your email:
http://tv-part.com/index.php?target=products&product_id=1369

If you can read/use a service manual, $5+tax is a lot better than $hundreds for a new television. Or- buy the downloadable manual, and give it to your favorite electronics friend to peruse. The darkness coming from the new lamp might bespeak of a power supply problem, or a poor connection between the lamp and the power supply. The fact that the lamp module stays on after it should go out also says power supply problem.
In the worst case, keep both your lamp modules (they're probably both good), and sell them online to help defray the cost of a new television.
