SD type cards have a little switch on the card that can write protect or "lock" it. Take the card out of the camera and check this switch. To unlock it, it should be moved towards the edge of the card which has the electrical contacts.

I have found that sometimes the little locking switch will lock itself as you push it into the card holder in the camera. My solution is to unlock the card, then use some scotch tape to hold the switch in place.

Hope this helps.

Card is locked

On the side of the SD card, there is a very small lever that locks the card. The label on the card will indicate the position of the lever to place it in the unlocked position.

Its saying card is locked how do i unlock it??and why did lock up in the first place??

Look at your memory card. SD cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the metal contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card. It's easy enough to inadvertently move the switch while handling the card.

Memory card error it says card is locked I slid the switch back an forth but still says memory card

I'll include a diagram of the little lock switch so you know the correct position to be able to load pictures to it. Another reason for getting the card locked error is if the memory card hasn't been formatted in the camera it's being used in. Formatting is necessary after downloading pictures to the computer as well.

When I turn the camera on, it says memory card error, card locked!. I took the card out and saw that the lock switch is not on.. still doing it

The lock/unlock tab may be getting moved to lock when inserting into the slot of the camera, and then moving to the unlock position when it is removed from the camera. This will make you think it remained in the unlocked position while it was in the camera.

Use a small amount of scotch tape along the edge of the card with the tab to hold it in the unlocked position. Gently insert it into the camera - do not force the card into the camera. You may have to trim excess tape from the card, depending on how tightly the card fits in the camera slot. if you have trouble keeping enough tape on the card to hold the tab in place, you could try using a dab of super glue instead. The glue method however, will be permanent.

Once the card can be easily inserted and removed, try it again.

I hope this helps!

I had a canon digital camera my memory card of that camera got locked can u help me to unlock it.

Remove the memory card from the camera if it isn't already, and look along the left edge of the card. Find a small tab and slide it forward (to the unlock position) and carefully slip the card back into the camera and try again. If it reports locked again, carefully remove the card to see if the tab has moved back to the locked position.

If the tab is moving to the locked position during the insertion process, you could place a small amount of tape along the card edge - over the tab - and carefully insert the card again. You might have to remove some tape to allow the card to fit into to slot. If you never locak the card - you could put a very small drop of super glue on the tab to hold it in place. Wait for the glue to set completely before inserting into the camera.

When i put the memory card in the camera, it comes accross the screen that the card is locked. How do i unlock it and how did i lock it in the first place?

To remove the write protect lock, take the memory card out of the camera, face the card towards you, look for a small white tab on the left hand side of the card, to unlock it push the tab up to unlock it, it will be at the side of the card like this 59a6de4.jpg .

If the lock is in the off position then the card maybe faulty.

It's not the camera, but the card. SD cards have a slide switch along one edge. The position farthest from the contacts locks the card, protecting it from writes. The position nearest the contacts unlocks the card. If the switch is already in the proper position, slide it fully the other way and then back again.

If that doesn't work, try another card.

Card locked

Remove the memory card out of your camera. On the left side of the card is a white switch. Move it to the upright position. Resinstall card back into your camera.
