Question about DISH Network DTVPal DVR by

1 Answer

My dtv pal dvr is a few months old and is unusable. It freezes up sometimes for hours i cant even turn it off. The content comes off an antenna that gets a strong signal but it skips like it is getting bad reception. The dvr even shows it has a good reception. I cant get a refund i'm stuck. Thiw comes as a surprise because it is kept in optimum conditions, i havent even touched it since it was first set up.

Hello! Dan Busa with DISH Network customer service. This may be a signal reception problem you can try checking cabling and connections coming from your antennae.

Why does my Dish Network DVR-625 DTV receiver sound like it is running all the time

The Dish 625 as with the other Dish DVR systems has a fan built into the back of the unit. The fan runs nearly all the time to keep the internal drive cool. Sometimes the fan sounds louder that normal. what I do from time to time is take my shop vac and or the small vac u you use to clean your computer. and clean the vents around the fan. I do this on my desk top computer also.. Hope this helps.

My DISH Network DVR-625 DTV Receiver randomly freezes and resets itself and will only record 6-9 minutes of a program even though i have 50+ hours of available space. i've reset it several times. help?

ambrekulas,

I am sorry you are having problem with your picture freezing. You said you reset the receiver several times. Did you press the power on the receiver and release or did you unplug the receiver from the electrical outlet? Try unplugging it for about 10 seconds if you haven't already done so. If the problem persists, we'll need to replace the receiver. If you have any other questions, please post to this site.

DVR-625 DTV Receiver can it be used as a camera recorder

YES, it will record ANYTHING as long as it is in correct format. You use the Composite Video, Yellow, Input. and the AV Audio, input, red & White. This should be no problem. You need a camera that is compatible, with your system, either PAL or NTSC.

Panasonic DVR, loss of TV Guide on-screen program listings

Hi,

I had the TVGUIDE listing through my GE TV and it came across with a notice that they would no longer be putting out the listings. That was last year and the listing never showed up again. Your DVR may be recording digitally but if you can see it on a analog tv, it is using a analog turner and you will need a converter box to record once everything goes digital.

Most of the digital converter boxes come with a guide built in. I have the Magnavox and the Zenith and they work fine. You will need two converter boxes, one for the DVR and one for the tv, if you want to watch the tv and record a different show at the same time.

I would hook them up by splitting the antenna wire to the tv and the DVR. Then I would use the RCA plugs to connect the DVR to the TV and use the Input setting on the TV when I want to watch the DVR. You will have to set the converter box to the channel that is playing the program you want. The DVR will be set to channel 3 or 4 (whatever channel the converter box is set on to broadcast on) to record on, not the broadcast channel. Make sure the power saver on the converter box is set to off or the converter box will turn off after a couple hours and you will get no picture for the dvr to record on.

The digital signal is being sent over the air usually over UHF channels. It sent digitally but will be picked up by your antenna in the same way it picks up the analog signal thus there is no difference. There is no such thing as a digital antenna, thus a antenna from a Home Depot will work fine. I needed a outdoor antenna but the picture quality is the same as cable. Just make sure the antenna can pick up UHF and VHF signals.

Hope it helps!

Can you download content from dvr-625 to a computer?

Based on the product specs available on the internet, no.

You can only store content on the provided hard drive, and play back from there.

The only DVR that can transfer to PC, is still Tivo.

When watching DVR recordings, the playback freezes

One of two things may be occurring. The first is a Line Of Sight issue may have been created if you have a limited LOS by wind moving foliage interrupting the signal. This will usually be preceded by pixelization or blocking appearing on the screen. The other instance is the hard drive in the receiver is faulty and in need of replacement. I will almost certainly assure you it is the latter of the two. You can upgrade the receiver to gain the ability to use an external hard drive to download your recordings so that the next time you need a receiver replaced you won't lose your recordings. The other benfit is that if you get a receiver tht does not have a DVR but is able to use an external hard drive you will save the cost of the DVR fee each month which in a year will save you thirty one dollars as there is a 39.99 one time charge to turn this capability on. In the first year alone you will have recouped almost the entire cost of the one time fee and in the second year will have probably recouped the cost of the external hardrive also.
Thanks for using Fix Ya. If you need further assistance please let me know.

Lines on TV with DVR-625

try using a better cable from the receiver to the tv. sometimes less expensive cables dont "ground " as well as they should after a few years. the more shielding the better. the cable here will sell you the cable much cheaper then going to any store and its better quality, even if your not a customer of cable.
hope this helps

DVR Freezing up

Most likely it's your hard drive going bad. You can replace it and not junk the unit.
